People are afraid of what they don't understand. It's a tale as old as time
I don't fully understand transgenderism. Doesn't mean I'm afraid of it. It's a thing that happens to some people. 🤷♂️
So, I don't know if fear of the unknown is an adequate explanation. I think people are being taught to fear these things; told that these things will hurt them
