I'd like to know from anyone who is treated satisfactorily whether they have any symptoms that persist and resist treatment, and if so, which ones. Ideally, I'd like to collect enough data to produce some sort of statistics (not scientific, of course). Feel free to use any format and language you like.

For me:

  • The urge to fidget
  • Attention span, which is better but rarely exceeds an hour
  • Hyperfixation and hyperfocus

EDIT: Got hyperfixated, compiling the following JSON from your answers, so feel free if you want to follow the template :)

{ "diagnosis": "ADHD", "treatment": ["fluoxetine", "methylphenidate XR"], "age": "30", "years_in_treatment": "3", "remaining_symptoms": [ "fidgeting", "hyperfixations", "hyperfocus" ], "attention_span": "60", "record_date": "31/05/2024" }

I am not native so I am using DeepL Write (big shoutout) to correct this, so sorry if something is off.

Hey folks, I'm diving deeper into privacy and security across my devices and could really use your advice. I mainly use Linux but sometimes switch to Windows for specific needs. On my phone, GrapheneOS has been a solid choice for privacy.

For my Windows setup (affectionately named 'Trombone'), I'm running AtlasOS with a VPN that has a kill switch, all behind a Pi-Hole secured router. My browser of choice is Firefox, with extensions like Privacy Badger to minimize fingerprinting, and I avoid cloud services.

I'm reaching out to see if there are any additional steps or tools you'd recommend to further enhance my privacy and security. If you've got experience with similar setups or have faced any related challenges, I'd really appreciate your insights.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can share. Let's help each other make our digital spaces safer!

I am once again here to announce to the world that I got bored once again.

You can see my previous iterations of my desktop by clicking on my profile. For the lazy ones:

Suddenly, I felt an urge to clean things up. I am on the go so I had to do a single screen disposition.

Tech stack:

  • KDE Plasma (as in Kubuntu)
  • Latte-Dock (from Ubuntu repo, straight)
  • That background

Plasma Widgets:

Icon pack: Fluent Dark

About the latte panels:

  • The dock on the left autohides
  • Both the panels have strong shadows, no blur and low opacity

Advices for the Ricenauts:

  • Maybe is just me, but I am pretty convinced that most of wallpaper websites have cryptominers
  • thot RAM works quite well, thot CPU doesn't. Don't waste your time trying

Some days ago I wrote this post documenting my experience in playing Palworld on Linux using Steam / Proton / Wine on a supposedly almost out of spec laptop.

To help with this follow up, my specs are as follow:

  • CPU AMD Ryzen 7730u (8c/16t) - RAM 16GB shared with the iGPU (2GB dedicated) - SSD fast enough to not be the bottleneck - Ubuntu Linux 23.10 with xanmod 6.7.0 kernel - Proton Experimental (tested with GE-25 and GE-27, same results)

Where were we

Last time I posted, I could barely get stable 20fps using all low settings in fullscreen.

Where are we

Now I am able to get almost stable 30fps (locked, see next chapter) in fullscreen using all low settings

The settings (aka how to play Palworld on low spec hardware on Linux, at least with AMD)

Prerequisite

  • Install Gamemode and verify it works - (optional) Install Mangohud to monitor your performances - Ensure you have Gamescope on your system - Steam and the game either installed or added manually

Installing the two mods we need

  • Install this mod (yes it works on desktop too); pay attention to not select the FSR2 version, instructions are included in the README
  • Then install this mod that supposedly enable FSR3; DISCLAIMER: I have no idea if this is effective or not, as theoretically gamescope only supports FSR1. Anyway, I have it on

TLDR After modding

If you are on Ubuntu

apt install -y mangohud gamemode gamescope

Else

Install the dependencies manually

Then

  • Right click on Palworld in Steam - Paste this in the "Launch Options" box

VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr,dx11 VKD3D_FEATURE_LEVEL=12_2 gamemoderun gamescope -W 1920 -H 1080 -w 1152 -h 648 -F fsr -r 30 -o 20 -f -- mangohud %command% -dx12

Why and what is this

That's the preset I game with. Basically, besides setting some tweaks for Vulkan:

  • It uses gamemoderun from Gamemode to ensure the system is optimized for games
  • It uses gamescope to forcefully set the internal resolution of the game to the values indicated by -w and -h (lowercase) upscaled to -W and -H (uppercase)
  • To do this, it uses fsr (specified as the -F option). The -r flag locks the FPS at 30, while the -o flag locks the FPS at 20 when the window is not active (win+tab for example)
  • The last command is optional, and is mangohud that adds its overlay to the game. You are highly encouraged to use something like GOverlay to tweak mangohud

My settings

My settings are tweaked for my hardware. Feel free to experiment. In my experience, the sweet spot for gamescope (which by the way is probably one of the most noticeable difference) is 1280x720.

Conclusion

You should see huge improvements in terms of performance with some compromises on the graphical side.

If something breaks, not my fault.

Happy penguin gaming!

As per title, I am currently playing on Linux using Proton GE Custom latest version (8.27 but also tested 8.25).

My experience is the following.

Specs

  • Ryzen 7 7730U (8c/16t) Laptop
  • 16GB RAM (14 RAM + 2 VRAM)
  • Decent performance SSD
  • Ubuntu Linux 23.10 (with Xanmod 6.7 x64v3 Kernel)
  • Wayland

Experience

  • Could not test anything above Low settings due to severe stutter even in the menu and 95% RAM which lead to PC being stuck

  • At low settings with different resolutions (from 720 to fullscreen 1080) i have 80-85% RAM usage (starting from a 21% base load) and 25-ish FPS performances

Workarounds

  • Once you get the game installed, add it to Steam as a non steam game pointing directly to the game .exe, compatibility forced to Proton GE or Proton Experimental
  • If it gives you some Visual C++ dependencies error, use ProtonTrick to install it in the Steam prefix
  • I did not find any performance tips and tricks

Conclusion

While being playable, I feel that the game can see huge improvements on Linux. However, I think there is also a lot of telemetry (local or remote) / logging in the mix as every pre-release version has (looking at you My Time At Sandrock) and probably the graphics part (especially the engine part) needs to receive some improvements too, so I bet in about 1 month we will see a steady 40-ish FPS with those settings

Cheers

Reason: wrong community

Work in Progress: Adding more details on the motivation

I have this proposal for ActivityPub

NOTE: This proposal is based on https://www.w3.org/TR/activitypub/#authorization and https://www.w3.org/wiki/SocialCG/ActivityPub/Authentication_Authorization consulted on 06 January 2024.

  • Considering that the entire section on safety considerations is presented as non-normative
  • Given that "at the time of standardisation there are no strongly agreed mechanisms for authentication. " as per the above reference
  • Assuming that the ultimate goal is to have a decentralised, persistent and verifiable identity.

Premise: The following proposal represents a radical and potentially disruptive change to the current ActivityPub specifications. In particular the following parts:

  • ActivityPub clients authenticate to a server using OAuth 2.0 bearer tokens.
  • Related OAuth considerations

It is also important to note that the following proposal can coexist with current OAuth authentication.

The proposed encryption algorithm (ED25519) can and should be updated in the event of a vulnerability or major upgrade.

Suggestion

I have no idea how to write a document like this correctly, and I am probably doing it wrong, but my only goal is to stimulate discussion.

The proposal is as follows.

ActivityPub clients authenticate against a server using ED25519 signatures In general, bearer tokens can be easily replaced by signatures in almost every aspect. Advantages:

  • Servers don't need to store anything other than a session token.
  • Authentication is decentralised and context independent
  • Your key is your identity: no server breach can expose your data
  • There are mature libraries like node-forge (for nodeJS and TS) and many others that allow easy implementation of authentication.

I have tried to think about possible downsides, but the goal of this post is to stimulate discussion, please keep it respectful, but of course criticism and additions are welcome!

Out of frustration after hours digging and finding them, I want to share with anyone that needs them the working drivers for all the (ones I know) Goodix fingerprint drivers, usually found on Lenovo IdeaPad (like the IdeaPad 3 Slim) but also on other laptops.

The url contains all the info needed.

The debian packages have been mirrored from either Dell's repo and AUR backdigging.

It should be only for debian/ubuntu based distro but by extracting the .deb archives and copying the directory structure I am pretty sure they will work anywhere.

Anyway, issues and pull requests are more than welcome.

I did not find these anywhere else.

List of supported devices:

0.0.4

  • 27c6:538c
  • 27c6:533c
  • 27c6:530c
  • 27c6:5840

0.0.6

  • 27c6:550a

EDIT: Now the repo is also nice

Haier hits Home Assistant plugin dev with takedown notice

I'm not really big on "let's make a movement", but this independent dev has been hit with a cease-and-desist from making a FOSS Home Assistant addon for their Haier air conditioners.

Haier claims that they are losing out on millions of dollars due to this plugin which... lets you control their air conditions from home assistant. They haven't bothered to explain how that's possibly worth millions of dollars - they're just claiming it.

So of course they hit the Streisand button and are demanding that he takes it down. He of course is complying... in a couple of days. Maybe you see where this is going.

It would be an absolute shame if any of you just happened to create a fork, or clone the code, or mirror it in your own instance. An absolute shame.

Just so everyone here knows which repositories NOT to clone or fork, here are the two links:

and please, don't repost this anywhere, or share it in other communities, or anything like that. It's a shame that so many people already know and are making clones. I'm just letting you know so you don't do anything like telling others who may make their own copies.

(sidenote: Haier owns GE Appliance, so for our American folks it may affect you folks too)
