I set up a server using an old laptop just for Nextcloud and Jellyfin. After installation I realized that Nextcloud Snap files are kept in the root directory and there is no way to move them to the Home.

The Arch Wiki says that Jellyfin cannot access your Home, and suggest creating /media directory for it.

Based on these, do I need to partition the whole disk into a single partition? If I do that, won't I lose all my data in case of changing distro?

I mean is it right to install without Home partition?

Edit:

  • Today I learned that I can allocate /var as a seperate partition.
  • It is possible to give Jellyfin permission to access /home.
  • @Bronco1676@lemmy.ml is right, using Nextcloud Snap on Arch Linux is not the preffered choice, it is better to use it on Xubuntu LTS. I am grateful to him.
  • I think partitioning like this, will be good:
/
/var
/home

Why are apps like Fairemail, Voyager, etc. updated so often? Why don't they collect the changes and release them once a month or something like that?

It's interesting that every time I open Voyager I see an update warnin at the bottom. Is that really required?

I use Super Productivity for all my work. I don't like to use mouse, but in KDE I can't manage SP with the keyboard.

In SP settings, under system wide options, I try to configure the keyboard shortcuts but it doesn't work.

I just want to start/pause the timer, is that possible?

submitted 9 months ago by sandayle@iusearchlinux.fyi to c/linux@lemmy.ml

Electron folder under /home/cache has reached 1.3GB.

I want to clean it but I don't know how or would be wrong?

Is there a command like yarn cache clean?

If you like to fly alone and have best view, the best seat is the "lookout". It's also cozy and quiet.

I want to set up a server on an old laptop at home to synchronize my Obsidian notes and some pdfs. I'll install Nextcloud AIO but I have a question about domain.

Do I need to buy a domain name for the sync to work properly? I created a dynamic dns account on Noip but I don't know if this is a temporary solution or permanent?

If the domain is necessary, is it enough to just buy a domain or do I need to buy a hosting package or something?

Telegram, the encrypted messaging app, has quietly restricted access to several channels affiliated with the Palestinian armed group Hamas.

Hamas’s official account, the account of its armed wing the Qassam Brigades, and the news account Gaza Now have not been accessible on versions of Telegram downloaded from Google Play or Apple’s App Store since last week.

Firefox View includes more content. You can now see all open tabs, from all windows. If you sync open tabs, you’ll see all tabs from other devices. Browsing history is now listed and you can sort by date or by site. As before, recently closed tabs are also listed on Firefox View.

To access Firefox View, select the file folder icon at the top left of your tab strip.

Gradually rolling out in Fx119, Firefox now allows you to edit PDFs by adding images and alt text, in addition to text and drawings.

Recently closed tabs now persist between sessions that don't have automatic session restore enabled. Manually restoring a previous session will continue to reopen any previously open tabs or windows.

If you're migrating your data from Chrome, Firefox now offers the ability to import some of your extensions as well.

As part of Total Cookie Protection, Firefox now supports the partitioning of Blob URLs, this mitigates a potential tracking vector that third-party agents could use to track an individual.

The visibility of fonts to websites has been restricted to system fonts and language pack fonts in Enhanced Tracking Protection strict mode to mitigate font fingerprinting.

The Storage Access API web standard was updated to improve security while mitigating website breakages and further enabling the phase out of third-party cookies in Firefox.

Encrypted Client Hello (ECH) is now available to Firefox users, delivering a more private browsing experience. ECH extends the encryption used in TLS connections to cover more of the handshake and better protect sensitive fields. Read more about the launch of ECH on Mozilla Distilled.

Media sniffing is no longer applied to files served as type application/octet-stream, this allows these files to be downloaded instead of attempting playback.

On Windows, the mouse pointer will disappear while typing if the relevant Windows mouse properties system setting is enabled.

Firefox is now available in the Santali (sat) language.

I got this error when I run pacman -Syu this morning:

:: installing kcoreaddons5 (5.111.0-1) breaks dependency 'kcoreaddons' required by libmediawiki-git

I think it's not my fault. Should I wait or find a solution myself?

I want to build my own cloud with Raspberry Pi, but I don't know which hardware to buy.

Will it be enough if I buy a Raspberry Pi 5 and two SSDs?

"Before the Hamas incursion and subsequent Israeli military response, it was believed that Israel and Saudi Arabia, driven by a common animus toward Iran, were working toward a normalization of relations, a development that could have shifted the dynamic in the Middle East."

Who wants the dynamic in the Middle East to remain unchanged?

The Mozilla Firefox 118 web browser is now available for download ahead of its official release on September 26th, when it will be rolling out to various of the supported platforms.

I consider Firefox 118 a major release because it finally brings the built-in translation feature for websites. Previously planned for Firefox 117, the new translation feature will let you automatically translate websites from one of the supported languages to another.

The translation feature can be accessed from a new “Translate page” menu entry in the application menu (the hamburger menu on the far right side of the window). When clicked, a pop-up dialog will open in place to let you choose the languages you want to translate from and to.

Using Voyager on Desktop (iusearchlinux.fyi)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by sandayle@iusearchlinux.fyi to c/voyagerapp@lemmy.world

I enjoy using Voyager on the phone. Today I discovered that I can also use it on the desktop. I've added it as a website to Floorp's sidebar, so I can browse Lemmy just as smoothly as on the phone.

Thank you very much for this great app.

I would like to know what caused the Great Depression and how the world recovered from it. Do you know any good books on this subject?

We'll be able to use Voyager on Android in the future, right?

[-] sandayle@iusearchlinux.fyi 29 points 1 year ago

I tried it twice and hated it. Maybe it's because I'm in love with KDE but that's not the only reason.
