Happy New Year!

Or, since I couldn’t say it properly as a young child… habbynoony! (My parents still say this to me every year)

Forgot to do my spreadsheet this weekend. Feeling like a fraud. I’m sorry FIRE gods…

Wife is pregnant for the first time (very early, so we’re still in the ‘fingers crossed’ stage). Definitely not ready to tell family/friends, but exciting times nonetheless!

We’re slightly older than most new parents and have been down the FIRE path for a while so we’re financially prepared, which is nice. Definitely grateful for the financial security.

Now I get to look in to 529 plans for the first time. Not thrilled that I have to use one of the ones run by the state to get the state tax benefit. Didn’t want to have to manage a separate account from my brokerage/IRA. Oh well!

It’s evenly distributed.

  • 50 born 1965-1969
  • 49 born 1970-1974
  • 50 born 1975-1979

Point is, Gen X is PLENTY represented in Congress.

I mean… lol. Gen X makes up ~33% of the US House and ~20% of the overall population.

Meanwhile, Millennials make up 8% of the House and 25% of the population.

$2 mil for some lavish comfort and not having to stress so much about a strict budget, or $1.8 mil for a easily doable 3.5% withdrawal rate. For both numbers I would want a paid off house to be able to manage my tax situation better.

I’m at about $700K in savings/retirement, $200K in home equity which doesn’t really count for anything in this scenario, and $250K left on my mortgage. So… not that close but honestly not that far if all goes well. Hopefully eight years or so.

Of course — I made it!

Threw out my back yesterday by bending over to pick up a single wine bottle. Sigh.

I did enjoy the wine though.

I wish they would ban military nights. False patriotism.

Signed, a veteran.

Man… Silver seems like such a soft commish. This isn’t much of a deterrence.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

Note: can’t play this with my wife. She has gotten me killed many, many times.

3

I’ll start. Not all are particularly rare and some have come back into vogue with recent patches.

Barb - Town Crier (war cry), punch barb

Paladin - Unkillable Abbot, passive pally

Sorc- ES builds similar to Abbot

Amazon - passivezon, daggerzon, any build that uses a Witchwild String (one of my favorite D2 items)

Assassin - Furysin

General - rares only, naked (aka CE necro)
