Seems to be sort of working for me. The home page still loads but no comments load. I only open the app occasionally though. I've been mostly using Kbin now especially since I've been able to beta test Artemis

It always annoyed me how the ads were formatted to look like posts, always felt like they were trying to trick people into clicking on it (which honestly that probably is the intent). Feel the same way with ads on Twitter. It's one thing to show ads and another to format them to try and trick users into clicking on them

Judging by the comments it looks like all the extreme emoji haters are the toxic people who refuse to leave Reddit. I love that for the most part the people that left Reddit and are active in Kbin/Lemmy aren't the super toxic ones that frequented Reddit, it's really a breath of fresh air

Update! 7/3/2023 (kbin.social)

I have a few new subs I've added to the directory. Also another update in regards to accessing the directory. The devs at lemmy said that the issue with pinned posts on kbin not federating over is a Kbin issue, so I went ahead and submitted a feature request on Kbins codeberg. I have no idea how easy this will be to implement but fingers crossed it can get implemented. In the meantime I'm going to keep linking the pinned comment and then eventually I will redo it so it will show up on other instances.

If you see any cat subs I've missed feel free to make a post and I will add them!

I have gone ahead and made a Kbin equivalent of the r/nervysquervies sub. This was a very wholesome sub all about animals with neurological conditions being adorable. There is also an educational aspect to it and helping people understand and learn more about these conditions.

If you have a fur baby (Or other animal!) with a neurological condition that you feel would fit come on over! Posting pictures or videos of others is fine as long as you properly attribute the owners (Don't post others pets and act like they are yours)

Rules are the same as the subreddit. It's empty right now but hopefully we can spread the word and get some sweet content of these amazing animals!

If the lemmy search doesn't work try searching the full kbin url and that should make it pop up

It was sometimes used for posting, like you had to have a certain amount of karma to post in certain subs

[-] princessofcute@kbin.social 34 points 1 year ago

He talked about it on the polish instance. Someone accused him of some serious stuff and he explained where all the naming came from in the comments: https://karab.in/m/fediverse/p/217281/The-reason-for-the-strange-naming-and-uncomfortable-images-on#post-comment-311421

What's dumb is reputation doesn't even do anything on Kbin right now other than make you go "haha I have higher number than you" so reputation farming is a total waste of time. Personally I hope it stays that way as it will deter the farmers, I can see some of the benefits of the karma system in Reddit but it's just too prone to manipulation to be actually useful in any way.

I loved subredditsimulator, I always forgot I was subscribed to it until a bizzare unhinged post popped up on my feed though that would also sometimes happen on non AI generated subs lol

Hello! I'm not the moderator or author on this (Just a fan!) but wanted to help get the word out as it's one of my favorite webcomics and I wanted to make sure it gets enough traction so the author keeps posting in the Fediverse. This is a fantastic fantasy themed webcomic, the author just started posting in the Fediverse in addition to their normal avenues so go and have a look! They just posted the prologue and will be posting the previous chapters in the coming days, then once it's caught back up the updates are on Mondays and Fridays.

Lemmy Search: !Alderwood@kbin.social

(I think the exclamation mark searching is broken right now but if you search for the full url in lemmy it should come up.)
Also as usual with federation old posts wont show up so you'll probably have to go to the page on kbin.social to see the first post.

Update! (6/26/23) (kbin.social)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by princessofcute@kbin.social to c/catsubs@kbin.social

I found several that I had somehow missed on Kbin.social as well as a new one that just moved over from reddit! I'll list all the new ones below.

As far as the federation goes I was doing some testing to see if I can get the pinned comments pushed over but it doesn't seem to be working. I opened up a feature request for Lemmy, as I think it's an issue on that side rather than Kbin, to see if pinned comments made before federation starts could be pulled over. There was an issue earlier in the year where it wasn't happening on lemmy to lemmy instances but that was fixed so hopefully kbin-lemmy instances can be fixed as well. I'll give it a bit but if it seems like it may not be happening anytime soon, I'll go ahead and repost the comment with the directory and delete the old comment so that it shows on any new instances. I know the magazine/community should be showing on lemmy.world and lemmy.blahaj.zone but I'm not sure if it shows on others yet. If you are on lemmy and can't find it to subscribe, try pasting the full link to the Kbin magazine in your search instead of just the search term (This goes for this magazine as well as any of the cat magazines/communities in the directory).
From what I can tell the comments are really the only way to have a directory like this, since the magazine info doesn't get updated after federation starts either. I'll keep experimenting to find the best result but for now we're going to stick with comments and then I'll just periodically have to make a new one so it get's pushed to all instances.

I'll also be doing some reorganization to make it look nicer. I'm loosely following the organization used on r/catsubs but also doing it in ways that make sense to me. If anyone has some suggestions on other things to change let me know! I want to eventually get a better icon for the magazine, at the moment it's mostly just a placeholder (It's just a free icon I found online).

Last note, I wont be doing these updates daily, only when I add new links or if it's some major change I just ended up finding a bunch of new additions twice in a row.

I've noticed this when searching for a few differemt Lemmy communities on different instances where it will load for a second and then nothing happens or it will reselect the text box. Normally if Kbin can't find the community it will say "nothing" but there are certain communities that don't even show that, almost like it can't load it. Is this an issue of the instance I'm searching for is having federation issues? Or is it something on Kbin's end?
I've mostly seen it with communities from lemmit.online but I've also seen it on a few others. I know Lemmit was having some issues but they were supposedly fixed (but they still aren't showing up), and I've started seeing that search error happen with a few others instances now too

(Also for clarification I am talking about the main search bar not the magazine search, these are communities that I'm trying to start the federation on Kbin but they aren't showing up on the search)

For those that don't know, the subreddit r/Catsubs was made as a directory for all the many cat subreddits on reddit as well as a way for searching for different cat related subreddits.
I was noticing that more and more cat communities/magazines were popping up and it was getting tricky to find them all so I thought I'd recreate the Catsubs directory on Kbin!

This is unaffiliated with the subreddit, but I did talk to the subreddit mods and get the go ahead as they don't currently have any plans for leaving Reddit.

I already have a pinned comment with all the cat communities/magazines I've found with a kbin.social link as well as the search link for Kbin and Lemmy for those on different instances.

Also anyone is welcome to make a thread if you are either looking for a cat community/magazine or if you find one that I don't already have in the directory.

I'm still working on it but the basics are all good to go so come on over if you are looking for more cat communities/magazines!

Lemmy Search: !catsubs@kbin.social

Current Directory (kbin.social)

I'll maintain a pinned comment with all the communities/magazines for now until I find a better way to maintain them. The main links will be to kbin.social but I'll also put the magazine/community name so that it can be searched on other Kbin/Lemmy instances. If there is enough requests I can start including links to other popular instances.

Yet more reasons why people should stop using LastPass... I finally switched to Bitwarden after getting tired of having to choose between using it on mobile or desktop. Got out before the hack. I'm going to work on transferring my data again to a self hosted Bitwarden

Read that as EPCOT at first and was really confused what a theme park in Florida had to do with the storms in Texas haha

Did you already send Ernest a message? I've noticed he's really good at responding to messages he's just really busy at the moment for obvious reasons haha. Also weird that you can't add others to be mods on the magazine I haven't seen others have any issues with that yet, wonder if it's a bug on that one magazine for some reason

RSS notifications? (kbin.social)

Is there a way to set up an RSS feed to get notifications from Kbin? The current issue with the notifications is that they are contained completely in the site so you have to actually check the site for the notification. On mobile I'm using an app called Hermit to use the mobile site and it has an option to set RSS feeds for notifications so if there was a way to make an RSS feed of my notifications I could get push notifications on mobile. Any insight would be helpful!

I think it's probably several different reasons but I think a big one is the fear of the unknown. Basically they hate us because we're different, I think it'll be important to continue normalizing LGBTQIA+ things. I think the major backlash happening now is because it's being more normalized, these people are so set in their ways and are so terrified of change that they're letting their hatred control them. It's the whole boomer mentality of "this thing is different from when I grew up, therefore I hate it."/"I'm too old and therefore refuse to learn/change" (and yes I realize not all bigots are boomers, but you don't have to be a boomer to act like one)

No interest whatsoever. I don't like Facebook (I refuse to call them meta) or any of it's subsidiaries. Mastodon works great for my Twitter like needs.

I do hope that most instances block them though, for obvious privacy reasons but also because it would be hilarious as it would basically invalidate one of the major selling points of the ActivityPub protocol for them.
