There are alternatives for some of these things. IMO libreoffice is good, but buggy compared to the MS office suite.
Would YouTube get shittier if Google was broken up? I was under the understanding that YouTube is a loss leader service for Google, but I still think its one of the best social media sites on the web. Even when you consider the number of ads (that doesn't affect a revanced user).
He's more than capable of joining the fediverse, but he's also a UI/UX designer. I would say his main issue with the fediverse is the amount of friction between a normie being exposed to the concept and actually signing up and engaging with it.
You have to admit that it isn't the simplest thing to do. People have to understand the concept of the fediverse, find an instance that will accept them, sign up (with confirmation required from the instance mods) and then find out how to find communities that they are interested in.
It's not about whether a tech-savvy person can figure it out with some effort, it's about whether normal people can transition away from a monolithic, streamlined, social media to it.

Urgh.. We own three of these devices and this news really sucks because a set-top box isn't convenient for two of those TVs.
Just to add to the noise.. I'm shocked that Obsidian is not the number one app that people are talking about. Didn't even know there were so many other great options, to be honest.
Edit: it's because it's not open source. The plugins all have to be open source, and it is free as in beer. I'm keeping this comment up.
Fallout seems to be getting the Edgerunners treatment at the moment. Shame about the fallout London fiasco, that would have convinced me to spin it up again.
