I was a pretty big fan of them when I was a teenager. Saw them live a couple of times. They were actually what prompted my eventual radicalization.

One of them (not the rapist; ugh... what a huge fucking disappointment that was) lived just a few houses away from us for a few years. I never built up the courage to approach him, though.

Edit: just read the article the other commenter posted. Didn't realize the rest of the band was (probably) a problem too. It's a bummer, but I can't really say I'm surprised.

No filters were used; I promise. The colors look "normal" when it's (fire*) storming. Feel free to visit my base—a WIP—if you're in the area!

*edit: I was wrong. They're super-heated rainstorms

I think a lot of the people on Lemmy came from Reddit when the whole API thing happened. It was pretty much a boycott. I assume most of the people who cared enough about that to leave were mostly left-leaning.

That's why I'm here, at least.

Edit: not sure about Mastodon, though

"Everything happens for a reason ."

No. Fuck no, and fuck you. I DARE you to say that to the faces of the endless innocent people—many of whom are CHILDREN—who have been murdered, tortured, abused, enslaved, raped, ect.

That's actually a myth. People of any gender can have an Adam's apple, but they're generally more common/pronounced in AMAB people

I'd argue that it's dumb as fuck either way.

I was crossing a crosswalk early this morning on my way to the bus stop for work, while the walk sign was on, and the driver turned left onto a main road from a stop light and smashed into my left side. I was later told that I "flew up into the air".

It was all very much a blur and I was pretty dizzy and out of it at first, but no head trauma. Some kind lady who said she was a nurse ran to help me up and to the side of the road, and the cops and ambulance came pretty fast (I think, at least).

I was taken to the hospital and was told that I fractured my humerus head (left shoulder). They told me I may not need surgery, but we'll see what the orthopedic surgeon says during my follow-up appointment in a few days. Other than that, I just have a bunch of scrapes and bruises.

Overall, while I'm in quite a bit of pain, I'm grateful because it could've been way worse. My SO and parents are pushing to sue for pain/suffering, which I was hesitant to do until I read (online) that I wouldn't be suing the person who hit me, but their insurance company), so I guess that'll probably happen. They already found me a lawyer.

I truly have no ill-will toward that person because shit happens, it was dark, and they got out of the car immediately to call 911, so it's not like they didn't do what was right when it came down to it. I'm sure they're traumatized, and that their insurance payment will go way up... which I feel a little bad about given the state of the US rn. But I guess I don't have any control over that.

Honestly, while the whole thing was obviously pretty traumatic for me, too—and I keep replaying that moment in my head—I think I'd rather get hit by a car than hit someone with my car.

I will never understand why any gay person would ever be transphobic.

Like.........??? You do understand that people have used many of the exact same arguments against trans rights as they've done to suppress gay rights too... right?

I'd love it so much if I were close enough to my parents to want to spend that much time with them, but that's unlikely to happen.

I love them, yes, but if they weren't my parents, I'd want absolutely nothing to do with them. Childhood trauma aside (it's complicated), they're conservatives with not one but TWO Trump flags at their house. 🙃

It makes me so sad, because I know they love me and want to spend a lot more time with me, but my mental health suffers every time I spend more than one or two hours with them (and sometimes even then).

I don't have the heart to tell them that, at least right now. I can't imagine it would go over well anyway, considering their serious lack of emotional intelligence.

Arcane, the animated League of Legends show on Netflix.

Oh MY GOD, every element is seriously SO mind-blowingly good. And imo its animation is at least as good as—if not better than—the Miles Morales Spiderman movies... though they did spend six years working on it tbf.

And to be clear, while I'm vaguely familiar with LoL, I've never played it so I had zero emotional connection to any of the characters before watching.

Be prepared to cry though. Like the loud, punched-in-the-gut, ugly sobbing kind of crying.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't begin to imagine what kind of horrible person does that kind of shit to anyone, let alone someone who struggled so much with their mental health.

It sounds like you were a great friend to him.

Unfortunately, I used to work for a bank in the US for several years. CFPB complaints are one of the few ways a consumer could get their issues to be taken seriously and for the bank to actually be held accountable for their violations of federal regulations and general scumbaggery. Upper management was quite afraid of them. 😌

The CFPB investigates important issues like discrimination (such as redlining) and has the ability to prevent a bank from doing certain things, like issuing mortgages. I'm sure it has its problems, but without it, consumers would be screwed over by the banks even more than they already are.

I don't think that's the point. Bon Appétit specializes in food and its preparation, not science. It's difficult to know if what your source is saying is legitimate if you don't have the education needed to truly understand what they're talking about.
