Huge, huge fan of this API. Can't wait until we don't need a polyfill anymore. The built-in commands concept is cool and hopefully will expand in time, but the custom commands functionality is a real game-changer! Anything which makes wiring up various web components into a real UI more declarative and web-native is most welcome.
I really don't understand why lemmy hates technology which regurgitates slop based on data stolen from creators against their will, erodes trust, degrades mental health, wreaks havoc on the labor force, destroys the environment, and temporarily enriches a handful of fake billionaires with fake money…gosh I just don't understand!
Older Gen Z which are essentially baby Millennials, debatable. From what I hear, college today has become a hellscape.
Teens & preteens (Gen Alpha), totally different story. AI slop is cringe. Eww. Possibly appreciated for its entertainment value, especially in directed roleplay (aka Character.ai), but never as "art".
The kids are alright. And this Jacob dude's full of it.
I've seen this song-and-dance routine before. Big Tobacco. Big Pharma. Big Gun. It's always victim-blaming with these companies. Always.
My opinion of them could not have gotten any lower, yet somehow with these latest developments, it has.
My whole life I've desperately wondered what bank powder tastes like. Finally I'll get my chance this Yhanskgivong!
My teen has already been through the hype cycle. Was super into chatbots…until they were not. My preteen has never been even tempted, thought it was stupid from the get-go. From the mouth of babes…!
As I alluded to, when that's the case it's still now agentic coding to blame because of the diversion of focus. Companies such as Microsoft, instead of improving their existing human-based craft, introduce literal roadblocks to the improvement of craft both in terms of time/resources and also in terms of corporate culture.
The acceleration of agentic coding and the plummet in software quality & reliability aren't two separate stories. They're the same story. Even if a particular bug/problem can't be traced back to a slop source, the proliferation of slop is itself a net drag on software teams and leads to overall deskilling and focus diversion.
We have a duty as industry professionals to fight back, say no, and make sure companies are aware this "new normal" is completely and utterly unacceptable.
Corporate social media run by Big Tech. This isn't really a problem on community-run services because we, the people, aren't putting up with this crap. 😂
Thank god for the fediverse!
First we start by using language correctly. It's not a song. It's a stream of audio data which has been algorithmically extruded out of a massive training dataset (which is most likely comprised of stolen content). We then only perceive it to be a song because the audio data as interpreted by our brain is similar to actual songs we've heard.
Billboard, just like every other organization which offers a content platform, should ban generated synthetic data files. They are taking the place of actual art created by actual artists and it's utterly ridiculous.
For a paid (very reasonable imho) platform, I'm a huge fan of Nebula. A number of creators, some large and some not so large, I was following or would like to follow on YT are there, so I get to support them and stay off YT at the same time. Win/win!
Time to drop a new meme…
