Omg, awesome! I don't really have the capacity to handle being a mod right now (PPCS is a bitch and ideally I wouldn't even be online at all) but you can still add me if you want!
Oh GOD that link preview though!
Looks so much better tbh
So in terms of beehaw vs lemmy.world I would be on instance 3 - I can see and participate both, their defederation from each other doesn't affect you, it only affects the users of beehaw or Lemmy.world
This aspect is really crucial for people to understand, so I wanted to emphasize it. This is what gives the Fediverse it's hyper free nature, where if you don't like which instances your instance has chosen tp block, you can always switch to a third instance and have access to both your old instance (thus solving the network effect) and the new one (thus giving you freedom of association). This sort of connected-by-default design choice (I.e. using blacklists instead of whitelists) is also crucial for maintaining the general interconnectivity of the network thats crucial to its functioning.
Allowing users to migrate as seamlessly as possible between instances is just an important part of making decentralization really effective too — it only really means something that it's possible to move to a different instance with a different culture and set of rules, norms, moderation style, etc, without losing access to the network as a whole if it's easy to do so, because only then does it become a real possibility for counterbalancing the power of any given instance.
It's quite cool. It's very gritty and simulationist and realistic, very much in the spirit of Cyberpunk 2020 (e.g. with plenty of hit locations, more situational modifiers than you could ever want, and gun combat that simulates recoil and fire rates and target range, speed, and size) but the cool thing about it is that it's more of a modular set of interlockable rules and components that're designed to be mixed and matched and adjusted and combined while still being balanced in order to let you simulate basically anything or genre you want — with exactly the level of detail and crunch that you want.
For instance, the cyberware in this repo isn't home brewed rules whipped up from scratch — they are actually meta traits that combine various existing advantage and disadvantaged traits from the published rule books in order to create the desired effects of the cyberware! And GURPS actually has rules for making such combinations.
Is there a way to view each instances block list? If not it should be implemented into the back end somewhere, once again to allow freedom of choice.
Also this is a really great idea, maybe you should make an issue requesting that feature on the Lemmy github!!
Same. I really appreciate the hyperrealistic, amazing graphics of stuff like Cyberpunk 2077 don't get me wrong, but I would be more than happy to accept a game with even like Half-Life 1 levels of graphics as long as it has amazing gameplay and story and lots of real hand-crafted content. Obviously, you can have both (CP2077 again!) but you have to really pay for that, and I'd be okay with those games being rarer and having more games like I described.
Dude's unironically saying "you'll be back" lmao. Well, it sucks that the intimidation tactic of demonstrating our numbers and solidarity with a short strike didn't work as I originally feared. I said a couple times in the lead up to the strike that only striking for two days instead of indefinitely was ultimately going to be a performative move because it would give them assurance that it would be temporary and so ultimately the scene as a temporary inconvenience at most by Reddit management. That to really make them hurt and to make them scared a sizeable portion of subreddits would have to go dark indefinitely.
Someone pointed out to me that the performativity was kind of the point, because it was just a demonstration of concern and solidarity, and I had hoped that would work as a sort of forewarning of a more serious strike if they didn't listen, but that didn't pan out I guess.
This is extremely cool! I hope I'll be feeling well enough to play when Phantom Liberty drops.
(Also, this is a pet peeve of mine, but people really need to stop using GPT for stuff like this or learning general knowledge, it's trained to put words together in a way that sounds persuasive and convincing and good to humans, not actually tell the truth or understand facts — just like a corpo 😉)
Once you add me I'll fill out the sidebar, icon, etc
