Are these newer movies really that much worse in general or has the audience just finally gotten tired of the entire MCU? I saw every single one up until the second Spider-Man flick and many of them were just sort of lame. Movies like Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel and Black Panther and the Ant-Man movies which all released in the MCU's most dominant period leading up to and in between the Thanos movies were pretty bad and they still made a lot of bank.

I watched all those mid movies because I was invested in the shared continuity and wanted to see the different branches of the universe collide with each other. When they finally did, that investment just kind of dissipated, but I think the final nail in the coffin for me was when they announced the Disney+ Marvel shows at which point it just became too much of a time commitment to keep up with.

I'm assuming this will escalate to some insanely locked down DRM scheme. Guess I'll enjoy uBlock, ReVanced and yt-dlp while I can

You write articles for what I assume isn't that great of a pay and most people are just going to watch some guy like Yong Yea skim through them on Youtube for 100 000+ views

Well, it certainly looks like MGS3 in a modern game engine. Don't really have any complaints about how it looks, but I'm really curious to see some character models. MGS3 had that 3D anime look going for it and it'll be interesting how they will tackle the faces.

I would assume it would be like most modern games with digitally scanned actors but I don't know, Snake's looking like classic Snake from what we see of him here which I'm fine with.

In the manga, Kuina was afraid that the male students would soon overtake her in size and strength and that she'd be at a permanent disadvantage because of her gender, but the actors they cast were 15-16 years old and teen Zoro was already at least a head taller than her where it was the opposite in the manga with Kuina being older and bigger than little kid Zoro. Like yeah, that already happened, and you still beat Zoro in the duel regardless. Not that size would even matter in the One Piece world where regular humans can be like 15 feet tall for no reason, but this was in the first volume of the manga and the look and feel of the world hadn't solidified yet.

I totally get why they cast older actors who were presumably also martial artists- there was no way they were filming a 9-year-old and a 12-year-old dueling with full-sized katanas. I just think they should've rewritten the story to fit those older actors better.

I also couldn't help but notice that all the flashback scenes took place at a forest/park in daylight, presumably because wherever they were filming did not have a Japanese dojo or temple available. It just makes the scenes look noticeably bland and cheap in a show with otherwise excellent set design and lighting.

It was also paced worse than the manga where it goes straight from Kuina and Zoro making their promise to keep training to voices yelling about Kuina having died after falling down the stairs, and then showing her dead body at her wake and kid Zoro ragecrying while holding her sword. The abruptness and bluntness of her death is what gave the flashback its emotional punch but they drag things out over several kinda slow scenes spliced throughout the fourth episode.

A bit disappointed since I thought they really nailed Luffy's origin and it being revealed slowly over the first two episodes worked out great. Here's hoping they got the heartstring puller that is Sanji's origin right

I've posted about this before but it continues to fascinate me. I'm also not talking about the more obviously fucked up topic of the sexualising of teenage girls in Japanese media, but what constitutes an "older" person over there.

I'm currently watching the Netflix adaptation of One Piece, and saw some Japanese discussion about the show's portrayal of Shanks and the actor playing him, who looks like this on the show:

There were comments saying that he "looks too much like a man past his prime" but also comments like "I like seeing attractive older men in media" and I'm just confused since he looks like a perfectly normal handsome actor man. They talked about him like Western social media talked about a 65-year-old Jeff Goldblum

I guess you turn into an ossan immediately after your 25th birthday

In my defense, black pepper is called "mustapippuri" and allspice/pimento "maustepippuri" in Finnish and both also look similar. You'd think the taste or smell would've clued me in a bit earlier but I only noticed when I took a closer look at the bag in my spice cabinet

Here's hoping uBO manages to stay on top of the adblock arms race after this shit gets rolled out to everyone 🤞

It seems to be happening to people regardless of the browser they're using. Google's currently only testing the new measures on random accounts

Probably related to the issues I began having yesterday with Revanced- suddenly, videos started to infinitely buffer after around 1 minute of playing. I ended up having to update + reinstall Revanced entirely. Looking at the Revanced subreddit it seems more and more users have started getting affected by the same issue these past few weeks.

Google's definitely doing something.

Can't wait until Google flips them on globally for all users doomer

The latter option does leave you with the game in your Steam account though, which is infinitely more convenient than downloading a repack made by some Russian somewhere in 15 parts from 5 different filesharing websites

...I mean, I assume. It's not like I've ever bought a game... or several games... from resellers side-eye-2

A family member just told me some news story they had read about North Korea- apparently there's a huge typhoon incoming and the government has ordered the populace to lay down their lives to protect monuments yeonmi-park

I kinda hope they don't defenestrate or whatever, there's a perverse glee in the whiplash of seeing all these Reddit posts showing up on Hexbear

Might get old though

eu-cool obviously, but stuff like this is still neat sicko-jammin

Now it seems Apple will need to figure out how to allow access to the battery inside future iPhones, as will every other smartphone manufacturer.
