Mechanical switch lights like the Convoy S2+ do not have any parasitic drain. But be aware that the batteries themselves have some self-discharge, Li-Ions are the worst at something like 5 percent in the first 24 hours and then loses 1–2 percent per month. Protected Li-Ions are even worse at 4-5% per month.

If you need to keep them stored for long periods, get an AA-compatible or dual-fuel flashlight and use Eneloop batteries for rechargeables, or Lithium primaries if you don't need/want to recharge.

Can't he just use a VPN? Or is using a VPN in China grounds for a long stay at one of their 'reeducation' camps?

@Sakowuf_Solutions@lemmy.world is the person you want to talk to about anything UV-related.

If anyone ever doubts that electronics can be pretty, I'm just going to show them a pic or three from your soldering jobs, they never fail to impress. Congrats!

Just out of curiosity, what soldering iron and/or other tools did you use for these?

the 70.3 is a great balance of good color and high efficiency.

Great testimony on the XHP70.3! How do you think it compares to other throwy LEDs (if that's the category it's actually on) like the SFT40?

Is there any TIR that can beat even a half-decent reflector on throw? (honest question as I really don't know, but always associated TIRs with flood).

I'm actually impressed with Reddit's management stupidity of not only shooting itself in the foot with that idiotic API fees thing, but then to actually sawing off the whole foot by sticking to it. I just posted a comment to that effect on an r/AskReddit topic to that effect: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/1470boa/comment/jo2y3qm

I guess the so-called "management" doesn't care because it doesn't see losing users and communities as a problem: as long as they can make some profit in the short run, the long run be damned -- and even if they end up losing money in the short run too, the worst that can happen to said "management" is pulling the rip cord on their golden parachutes and going on to some other promising company to eff it up like they're doing with Reddit, rinse and repeat... "other people's money" (and interests) and all that... :-(

Thanks again @Zak for prodding us to move to Lemmy with your decision to black out r/flashlight and your awesome blog post -- initially I was pissed at the blackout, but now I support you 100%.

Very nice! I'm sure u/Sakowuf_Solutions from Reddit would love to see that, but he doesn't seem to be here on Lemmy yet (at least not with that username).

I actually pretty much liked the banner we had at Reddit, the one with the dragons or whatnot being zapped with light beams from the guy on the ground... not sure it fits well here with the cropping etc.

Failing that, I vote for the picture of the petal-like TIR, really beautiful.

As a GenXer myself I'm right there with you ;-)

For those who are new to federation and want to see what it looks like, note that friftar’s account is from feddit.de while this community is from lemmy.world.

From what I've seen so far (less than 15mins here yet :-)) it looks like old FIDONet did in the 80s, but without the 9600 USRobotics modems exchanging bundles of messages all day :-)

First impressions here it feels more like home!

Ditto, exactly my impression so far. Perhaps when r/flashlight comes back we can start to encourage people there to move to here massively and just tell Reddit to go eff itself in the lake...
