This but unironically

Bring someone with a similar age diff home (just for show, don’t have to actually do anything) and tell him about his hypocrisy when he gets mad

I picked up House of Legacy on sale and have been having a good time with it. It’s still noticeably unfinished after three years of early access though.

My internet is dying

Also it's my birthday today so happy birthday to me

1: Deco*27 - Mosaic Role

Classic Deco*27 song. Wish he'd do Gumi songs again, seems like he's only doing Miku stuff nowadays

2: Iroha(sasaki) - 三鳥夭夭 (Midori Youyou)

I really like this song. It's just very calm with an interesting melody and rhythm. MV is slightly NSFW (not necessarily erotic, but it's just drawings of an almost nude woman)

3: Siinamota - At The Mercy Of A Dream

Very good Siinamota song. If you like his other stuff you'll like this one too.

4: Kikuo - Dust Dust Curse

One of my favourite Kikuo songs, but I see why others might not like it. The refrain of the song is mostly just 2 words getting continuously higher in pitch and it definitely reaches heights that a lot of people find uncomfortable. I usually do too, but Kikuo's songs are often exceptions to this and I don't know why.

5: Siinamota - Young Girl A

I already mentioned this song in my first post here so I wasn't sure if I should include it again, but here we are.

Probably one of Siinamota's most energetic songs, with his emotions being a lot less subtle in this one than in his other works. The linked version is the Album version (from Ikiru), which is a bit more polished than the Single version. I often prefer the less polished versions of songs because they usually include more of the artist's personality, but for this song I prefer the Album version. It feels a bit disrespectful to say, but this time I prefer this one. The other is a bit more on the edge of a chaos, which has it's own charm and is a slightly different feeling, but I relate more to this one.

no intro this time

1: Utsu-P - Wraith

Utsu-P is, in my opinion, the GOAT of Voca-Metal. This one in particular is one of my favourite songs of his, so I was surprised to find that it's not as popular as some of the other songs he's known for. Should definitely give this a listen if you like his other stuff or just Voca-Metal (or regular metal) in general, the guitars in particular sound incredible in this.

2: wowaka - World's End Dancehall

Another top 3 wowaka song in my opinion and another of the ones that made him popular. More than deserves the fame. (the first of the top 3 was Unknown Mother Goose, mentioned in week 6. For completion's sake, the third one is Rolling Girl)

3: syudou - Flamingo

Nothing new to say here that I haven't already said about his other songs

4: n-buna - Hanafurashi / Flowering

Classic Vocarock. n-bunas writes really wholesome songs, which I appreciate because most of the stuff in my playlist is kinda edgy.

5: PinnocchioP - Loveit

Like with syudou, I could say the same for almost every song of his, with the difference being that (I think) I listened too much to PinnocchioP when I first discovered him so I've become a bit bored of his style. Still very decent though

I also just noticed that the last title is a wordplay: Instead of writing ラブイット (Katakana transcription of "Love It"), he integrated the イッ into the ブ (ラブィット, notice how the ィ is small now), effectively making the pronunciation the same as ラビィト, the Katakana transcription of Rabbit. Miku has rabbit ears in the MV. Cute.

Very different from what I expected. Not sure what to think of it yet, but I don't hate it! Cool to see him try something new

didn't think I'd stay committed this long but let's keep going!

1: Iroha(sasaki) - Meltdown

It's a classic, it's a bop, I love Iroha. All around a really cool song with lyrics about feeling out of place and dreading the future that I think every teenager/young adult can relate to. Also, if you like this, go listen to his other songs! Despite this song's popularity, none of his other songs get even remotely close to the same views, even though they're all very good too!

2: Nashimoto Ui - No Talent

I like Nashimoto's music because it's just so raw. The mixing isn't quite right, the tuning is the bare minimum, but it just hits me in a way not a lot of artists do. Also helps that I have a thing for Vocaloid music with real instruments probably.

3: Livetune - Tell Your World

I really like this song. It gives me a weirdly comforting feeling and I cannot explain why. Last Night, Good Night also gives me the same feeling even though they're very different songs. I think it might be a fake nostalgia for an era of the internet never experienced, but that might also just be my brain making up an explanation for a feeling I don't understand.

4: Hachi - Wonderland and the Sheep's Song

I really like this era of Hachi songs. I know Kenshi Yonezu has pretty much settled into Rock now, but I wish he started experimenting more again. There are other songs of his I would like to talk about, but I'll wait until they get chosen by the shuffle. I will say though that his first album is my favourite, just so you can get a clearer picture of my taste (it is still very all-over-the-place).

5: Kikuo - A Happy Death

One of my favourite Kikuo songs. Upbeat melody with interesting synths and depressing lyrics, pretty much everything he's known for packed into one song while still sounding unique among his discography. One of the reasons he's been hanging around near the top of my favourite musicians for a few years now.

I usually never really cared about having multiple songs by one artist in the same post, but this time the shuffle gave me 4 songs by Nashimoto Ui back to back, so I think I'll change that going forward. From now on, every post will include 5 different artists.

[-] belluck 23 points 2 weeks ago

Don’t know why the other guy is talking like it’s too disgusting to even mention, but: He merged them and the result is a semi-conscious mess doomed to suffer for the rest of its life

i forgor :skull:

1: Inabakumori - Lost Umbrella

Yeah it's a bop

His second most popular song after Lagtrain and it deserves the fame. Really good math rock, like all his songs.

2: r-906 - Only You Can See

This Album was the one that introduced me to his music and he's quickly become one of my favourite musicians outside of Vocaloid as well. Highly recommend giving the album (diaLOG) a listen. There's also a cool visual for the first five songs of the album (non-Vocaloid, House/Disco)

3: PinnochioP - SLoWMoTIoN

One of my favourite PinocchioP songs. Really like the vocal tuning in this one.

4: r-906 - A Spoonful Of Spell

Another r-906 song and probably one of my favourites. Really like the vibe, similar to Psi.

5: Mitchie M - Idol Warrior

I like Gundam, I like Miku, and Mitchie M has done an excellent job at combining the two. Love this, a great combination of the classic Gundam themes with Mitchie M's own Pop-y Miku tuning that sounds way better than you'd think.

Hachi

1: Kikuo - Breaking Things Into Pieces

paraparaparaparapara

I can't really describe Kikuo's music. If you like him, you'll like this, if you don't, you don't. He uses pretty high-pitched tuning in a lot of his songs (though in his newer songs he's tuned it down a bit), which I know a lot of people don't like. I personally think it fits really well with his style, but I understand why others might find it annoying.

2: NayutalieN - Solar System Disco

MV's cute and the music is pretty good as well

3: syudou - caravan

It's syudou. ++

4: 164 - 天ノ弱 (ama no jaku

I think this might be one of the first Vocaloid songs I intentionally listened to so it's probably one of the reasons I got into Vocaloid. Still really like it. Very good classic Vocarock

5: john / TOOBOE - question mark

I like the song but I just scrolled through the comments and it seems like it's about how he hates when other people cover his songs? Which is understandable in a way but also a position I very much disagree with. I think usually people covering your song is a sign of respect, and, especially when done well, can show the many different ways different people can interpret the same song.

What do you guys think about covers? Back on Reddit I encountered someone once who hated them with a passion, talking as if it was the same as stealing, and the last song reminded me of that

Short one this time cuz I’m visiting family this weekend

1: Inabakumori - non-use

Another Inabanger, if you like his music or math rock in general you’ll probably like this

2: LamazeP - Ai no Uta

Same guy that made Triple Baka and Poppipo. About what you’d expect.

3: MushiP - A Sentimental God

I like this one. More producers should use Mayu.

Side note: Why tf is there no way to copy titles on Apple Music. And why are there so many producers named a variation of MushiP. I had to go to page 5 of the search results for artists named MushiP on vocadb to find this

4: Kitani Tatsuya/Hello Tanitasan - Don’t need my life

Doesn’t even have a full vocadb page lmao

I like it, it’s the kind of alternative indie-rock you see a lot coming from Japan, but the producer only got popular after switching fully to becoming a singer. If you like Eight (not Hachi), you’ll probably like this.

5: Neru - Terrorism

I’ve already said I like Neru a few weeks ago so nothing more to say here

Today is Friday in California *

1: wowaka - Unknown Mother Goose

Top 3 wowaka song in my opinion (together with Rolling Girl and World's End Dancehall, don't ask me in which order), which also makes it a top 20 (maybe top 10, but my list is a bit filled with Kikuo and Siinamota) Vocaloid song in general for me. I really like the flow of this one. I can also really recommend the Hitorie version of it where wowaka himself does the vocals, he's just an incredible musician all-round.

2: Siinamota - Healthy Death

Yeah another Siinamota song this week. Title says pretty much everything you know about its themes so I won't talk much about that this time, but this song in particular is definitely among my favourite songs of his. I can't find any reason why though, so I'll just say if you liked the Siinamota songs I've already talked about you'll like this one too (and all his other songs while you're at it)

3: Deco*27 - Hibana

It's a classic for a reason. Personally, it's not my favourite Deco song, but it's still very good Vocarock with catchy melodies.

4: MikitoP - 1 2 funclub

Cute. I like MikitoP. Just fun, creative songs about little things one might experience in life.

5: balloon - Charles

I should stop mentioning if I like a song or not. If I didn't, it wouldn't be in my playlist. Anyways, balloon became more popular for his vocal songs as Keina Suda, so if you like him, you'll probably also like his vocaloid stuff.

I decided to write less this week because I realized that every time I try to write more than that I end up just making up a bunch a bullshit that probably doesn't even reflect my opinion very accurately, so let me know what you think of it (if you even think anything of it)

[-] belluck 24 points 1 month ago

Then you should start learning another language, because English sentences being ambiguous is very much the norm.

Oh hey it's actually Friday this ti- I mean it's always been Friday never missed a week ~don't look at my post history~

For this one I'd like to mention again that these songs are chosen by shuffling my big unorganized youtube playlist and picking the first 5 that come up, which can cause some emotional whiplash (especially today)(and because last time someone thanked me for curating the list, which I did not).

1: Siinamota - Toriaezu Anataga Inakunarumaeni (TW: suicide)

I really like it, but I like every one of his songs so that doesn't mean much. This one's from his post mortem album "故に。". This album has quite a few songs where he sings himself, and although I haven't looked up the meaning of the lyrics yet, the name of the album implies that its songs are about the reasons for his suicide. For this song specifically, the transition from Miku's voice to his own seems to me like he's finally found his voice in the form of a suicide note, like the only way he could truly express himself was through death, which paints an incredibly depressive picture.

2: Amala - Daidaidaidaidaikirai

I honestly don't like most SynthV (and other AI-) Voicebanks because I think they have too much emotion in their standard tuning which causes them to often not quite fit the song they're in (not rarely because the producer simply got lazy with their tuning upon encountering a voicebank that sounds natural without any work (looking at you Kiichi. His old songs at least had vibes with the default vocaloid tuning sounding inhuman and mysterious, but his latest album just sounds bad in my opinion. \rant) and often sound significantly different from the original (not in this case, Teto still sounds like Teto), but Amala did an incredibly good job tuning both Teto and Miku for this song, especially in the refrain. This is not a genre I listen to often so I don't really have much to say besides that I really like the melody and the animation for the MV is amazing, so good job to Amala and Kurayami Mayoi (animator).

3: Neru - Let's Drop Dead

I think Neru is the master of making Vocarock with "stupid" but also relatable lyrics (although he also has a decent amount of more serious songs). Not much else to say here; A lot of his songs are similar to this and there's nothing I can think of that makes this one stand out among the rest, which is all very good.

4: Harumakigohan - Empurple

I had a phase a few months ago where I really liked his songs but I don't know if I listened to them too much or if my taste just changed since them but nowadays I find them a bit boring. They all kind of follow the same formula, which may sound similar to what I said about Neru, but I think it's worse with Harumakigohan. His tuning is also pretty polarizing since it's pretty high pitched and nasal (just pulling the gender factor all the way down in the editor), and he has stated before that he focuses more on the narrative and the visuals than the music in his songs which may also be a factor in this. I still like his MVs though

5: syudou - Bitter Choco Decoration

Love this one. I don't know why, but low-pitched monotonous Miku always piques my interest, and combined with syudou's complex instrumentals it just always makes for a great song. I think my brain's empty for today because I really can't think of anything more to say about it, so I'll leave it at that before I start writing bullshit again.

See you next Friday! ~(surely I'll be able to keep my schedule twice in a row, right?)~

It's Friday shut up

1: Kikuo - The Cat's Dining Table

This one's pretty far up my list for my favourite Kikuo songs. Similar in vibe to Hole Dwelling, which is probably my favourite of his, this song, like most of Kikuo's songs, is about the trauma-induced feelings of self-doubt often seen in children who've suffered under much too strict, often abusive parents, which is a pretty wide-spread issue all around the world, but especially so in countries with work cultures as toxic and competitive as Japan's. While I personally did not suffer through such things, I still get imposter syndrome pretty often and do wish that I could just disappear from the world and cuddle with a fluffy cat for all eternity

2: sasakure.UK - Our 16bit War

Also very much like this one. It's not a genre I listen to a lot, so I can't really pinpoint what makes this one better than others in this genre, but the lyrics are pretty good and still (and will probably always be) relevant, so up it goes.

Anyways, not Vocaloid, but I've been a bit fixated on the song "Nevermore" from his collab with lasah for the past few days. I also really like his other non-vocaloid stuff but it often flies under the radar since most people only know him for Vocaloid so please go check it out if you like his songs! He really has incredible variety

3: PinocchoP - At the Mercy of Emptyness

Pretty solid, like his other songs. He's an artist I like to have in playlists but not one I'd count among my favourites, as I really like his tuning for Miku and I do really like his songs when I first hear them, but they get a bit boring to me if I listen to them too much. As for this one, I've really got not much to say about it other than the first two words of this paragraph, so I'll leave it at that.

4: cosMo@暴走P - The End of Hatsune Miku

Same situation as PinocchioP, but a bit better. This song (and Album) is a classic and I still always find it incredible whenever I listen to this or "Disappearance of Hatsune Miku" how he managed to make her sound so clear at these speeds. Other than that, I find the melody and lyrics cute, and someone just drove past my home blasting Mongolian (I think) metal at full volume at 11:30pm so I'll just move on to the next one.

5: Picon - ガランド / airhead (I picked this one manually)

Another song I've been fixated on last week so I quickly smuggled this one in so it doesn't take too long for it to get picked by the shuffle algorithm for me to remain interested in it.
I love this one. I think the lyrics capture what happens when I try to think about my thoughts more accurately than any other song I've heard and the monotonous Miku with the freaky autotuned background vocals are me. The guitar part after the refrain sounds like crying that can't be done with either voice and, interpreted in combination with the MV, never does come out no matter how much you want it.
The MV in general fits the vibe of the song perfectly and just yeah. Words left my brain goodbye now

9
submitted 2 months ago by belluck to c/vocaloid@ani.social

Remember when I said I wanted to try to be on schedule? Anyways I'm taking songs from my shuffle again

1: Hachi - Dune

To put it simply: I like his older stuff more. He's become become a bit too J-Poppy for my tastes, especially after shifting away from Vocaloid with this song being his goodbye song to the community. I still like it, but seeing it as a sign of what's become of him kind of sours my opinion of it a little bit. Getting picked up by Sony didn't do any good for him in terms of creativity. I don't blame him for it, though. Evidently, it worked out for him, and most of his new fans probably don't even know that he used to do Vocaloid stuff.

2: syudou - 死生活 (Shiseikatsu)

Syudou on the other hand is an artist who still does Vocaloid music along with his own singing, and in my opinion he does both exceptionally well. The dark, more muted tuning he uses for Miku really suites his style, even though it's the same style he uses for his own loud, crazy singing. This song is from his first Album, but he's been doing music since long before then and it's already pretty refined by this point.

3: wowaka - Unhappy Refrain

Iconic. Not as popular as Rolling Girl, but just as good in my opinion. I didn't get into Vocaloid until after his death, but I still get sad whenever I hear his music. One of the greatest J-Rock artists of all time. Nothing more to say. Simply amazing.

4: Maretu - White Happy

Maretu's more known for his metal stuff, but this is pretty good too. Not one of my favourite artists, but pretty far up my list. I don't listen to him a lot so I can't really say much here. I find the verses pretty cute (although the lyrics are probably pretty edgy, but I'm too lazy to look that up rn) and the refrain is pretty catchy. I also really like his drums.

5: john / TOOBOE - Higan

Pretty good. Not an artist I consciously listen to a lot, but his work is pretty decent across the board. The instrumental is pretty funky, which is something I really like, but I find the tuning of Miku a bit dull, though I don't really know why it bothers me with this one even though there a a lot of other songs with similar tuning from other artist among my favourites.

Anyways, that's it for today. Not much to say here, but that has less to do with the songs I got and more with the fact that I'm bad at describing music. Here's my Youtube playlist btw if anyone's interested in that. It's mostly reflective of my taste, but I also put in quite a few filler songs and some iconic songs more because they were iconic than because I liked them. I think I'll continue just choosing songs from the shuffle going forward as this makes me have to think less.
