Reading theory, finally. This post inspired me: https://lemmy.ml/post/22417306

I’m not a great opinion-water, at least directly. I hate being proselytized and marketed to and can’t bring myself to do it to other people.

That said, I’ve been told I was responsible for converting a few people over the years. Not being pushy or trying to convert anyone was a common thread there, however much that mean in context of anything else.

I’ve definitely had deeper conversations with plenty of people on the subject, usually when they’ve been trying to antagonize me about it but sometimes out of pure curiosity. Not a single one of those has ever seemed to go anywhere productive. Maybe a meatless Monday or two at best.

What could I do differently in these situations? I guess get over my hangups about preaching and actually preach is one thing, though I’m not convinced that would help. I don’t really have any concrete examples of being vegan having a positive effect on my life to lean on, no cured cancer or diabetes or weight loss or gain…but if I did I’d probably point those things out. 🤷

Ok but hear me out we’ll just put it in a Docker container and that’ll make it better

I don’t care if it’s accurate, I just see how many people I’m superior to because I’m vegan.

I never really just drink any plant milk, most of my consumption is as creamer in my coffee. For that purpose oat is superior at this point. Just get a barista blend and it stirs in perfectly.

And I completely avoid almond milk (in the US) mostly because it uses a huge amount of water and for whatever stupid reason we grow almonds in places that don’t get rain.

Until recently I’ve only ever seen vegan “plant based” foods, and so didn’t give much thought to to this. Whatever, if it makes people less weird about vegan food choices at the store that’s fine by me.

But today I found out Morningstar is now labeling themselves and all of their products as plant based, and most of their crap is vegetarian with milk and eggs. And they’re one of the top brands.

So now I hate “plant based” and have a strong opinion about it.
