Oh it just occurred to me why you're saying the thing about buying something. Even when I shop like a regular customer, I still decline to show my receipt, both as personal practice and to help destigmatizate it for anyone who is actually stealing

In the States, at Walmart, someone's entire job is to stand at the door and ask to see receipts.
