🌈 Queer Pride Africa – Just 18 Days to Go! 🎉

Happening: July 30th, 2025

Hey folks, We’re counting down the days to Queer Pride Africa, a grassroots celebration of visibility, resistance, and joy in a region where being LGBTQ+ often means surviving in silence.

This year's event is all about community—bringing queer folks from across Africa together to dance, speak, and live boldly.

Whether it’s in rural farms, refugee settlements, or underground safe houses, pride still lives here. And on July 30th, we’ll show the world.

🗓️ 18 days left. 📍Somewhere in Africa, where being queer is still a risk.

💜 But the love? Loud and powerful.

If you believe in global queer liberation, drop a word of solidarity, share this post, or simply keep us in your thoughts as we gear up.

Your visibility keeps us strong. 🌍🏳️‍🌈

This has been something I have wondered about for a while, and while bigots and accepting people can exist in any generation, I just cannot help but notice how this is so prominent amongst a lot of Gen X.

From J.K. Rowling to Ricky Gervais to Dave Chappelle, I notice how people seem shocked that entertainers and creators that promote themselves as progressive turned out to be bigoted assholes, but when looking back in retrospect, it seems that there were a lot of red flags, or at least signs that they were fakers.

And yet, they got away with so much of just being "a product of their time", but when looking at the bigger picture, it's hard not to realize that it seems like it was so easy to pretend to be a progressive ally, and way too easy to be accepted and worshipped.

I mean, look at all those "brave" stories of writers going through so much just to have a vague 5-second moment of a gay kiss and being seen as some sort of revolutionary.

Of course for something so simple, they could easily hide their bigotry if standards are so low.

Why was this, and why such gullibility?

Hey folks — I’m currently looking to potentially transfer ownership of this community.

I originally created it to help bring people together and hopefully serve as a space for folks migrating from r/QueerDefenseFront.

It’s been great seeing it take shape, but lately I’ve found myself stretched thin — I moderate a ton of other communities here on Blahaj and across Lemmy, and it’s become a bit much to manage.

My Mental Health has taken a dive, as well.

To be clear: I’m not leaving! I still plan to post, comment, Moderate, and stay active — I just don’t have the time, energy, or capacity to continue owning the community.

If you’re interested in potentially taking on ownership, and helping guide the space forward, feel free to reach out via commenting down below.

Solidarity and thanks 💜✊🏳️‍🌈

As-salaamu alaykum!

In addition to moderating queer_muslims,

I also help mod a great community called !progressive_islam@lemmy.ca

and I think some of you might really connect with it.

If you’re looking for a space to:

Explore Islam through a progressive, inclusive lens 🌈📿

Discuss faith, justice, spirituality, and social issues from a modern perspective 📚🌍

Ask questions, share reflections, or just connect with fellow Muslims who support equity, reform, and compassion 🤝

Then you’re more than welcome at progressive_islam.

We’re all about dialogue, respect, and building an affirming community.

Everyone’s journey with faith is unique – and yours is valid.

Come join the conversation!

Speaking of Translove, I'm actually surprised that there isn't a Federated Alternative.

Would something like that even be feasible?

If so, it would no doubt give Fedi users more peace of mind, as well as security, to be on a dating app that's on the Fediverse, opposed to some random, corporate run platform.

Great Idea.

Perhaps call it something like:

BeeOff/BuzzOff: A play on "bee/buzz" similar to Honey, but with a focus on avoiding (off) certain products.

BoycottBee: Directly stating its purpose as a boycott tool.

Avoidify: Emphasizes the idea of avoiding certain products or brands.

BlanketBan: Suggests a comprehensive avoidance or ban.

NectarNone: Opposite of honey nectar, focusing on avoiding products.

ProtestPal: A friendly companion for those who want to make a statement by boycotting certain products.

SentryShop: Acts as a guardian or sentry while shopping, warning against certain products.

Ethico: Emphasizes ethical consumption by avoiding certain brands or products.

NoGo: Simple and direct, signaling products to avoid.

BlockBuy: Directly blocks purchases of unwanted products.

SanctionShop: Implies a personal sanction or restriction on certain products.

ProtestPulse: A tool that keeps the pulse of your protest or boycott efforts.

Avoida: A playful name emphasizing avoidance.

EDIT: I wonder, alongside a potential plug-in, what if someone created a federated platform or website that tracked the protests, boycotts, etc.?

It would allow Fediverse users to be able to follow the protests/boycotts.

RevoltChat?

Revolt Chat GitHub

Revolt Self-Hosted

Revolt Wiki

r/revoltchat

Although, I'm honestly surprised that there isn't a Fediverse equivalent/Alternative to Discord.

IK that platforms like Matrix exist, but what I'm talking about is a federated platform that's a clone of Discord.
