Maybe they shouldn't have given up all their power then.

10,000 Pieces (lemmy.world)
submitted 2 months ago by TeamBrett@lemmy.world to c/poetry@lemmy.world

I inherited a puzzle. 10,000 pieces. I counted.

No edges for frame, no edges in sight. the picture inscribed in a lost box I've not seen, no center to start from. no left. no right.

a picture without color, a drawing without line buried in my head, glimpses at a time

each piece looks the same, all covered in white nothing quite fits, I wish I had a knife. I swear i'm getting there, I'll work all night...

a sliver here, a sliver there Look these two fit! 10,000 pieces... you start not to care

My puzzle has too many pieces I don't think they all fit. I've done what I can. a new day has dawned, with this my work ceases

I leave this puzzle to you, my son take all these pieces, all 10,000. and One.

Poetry, yes. Sensical, no. But as I read it today still as relevant as ever.

I love mail in voting. I can take a Saturday that I have free, sit down for a couple of hours, review everything and everyone, ensure I fill out the forms fully and correctly and then drop it in the voting box. Forcing me to take a day off of work and go stand in a miserable line with the pressure of people behind me would be the worst. We have a system that works great as long as the right wing maniacs are not starting our drop boxes on fire. I love love love our civilized way of voting here.

Is he saying owned by the US government or by a US oligarch? The former sounds like the opposite of small government. If they're so angry about the postal office being owned by the federal government, why would they be okay with TikTok

Thanks that seems reasonable and makes me feel a little less crazy. i can't imagine Trump knows how Tariffs work or what they would actually be useful for, much less what the best levels are.

So I feel like I'm probably missing something or am not understanding how Tariffs work.

Tariffs would increase the price of foreign goods and commodities and those increases would be passed on to consumers, but isn't the goal not to get more tax money for the government but to disincentivize the purchase of those foreign goods at all thus fueling domestic manufacturing and economy?

It seems like tariffs aren't great short term but if we have the ability to manufacture domestically and are not doing so due to costs, then it may be good in the longer term. Especially because if we rely on those countries now, they have control over those goods and can end them whenever they want. At least this way we can ramp up US manufacturing without a disruption to the existing supply chain, it just costs more.

If it wasn't such a pithy amount that they sold I would accuse them if it, but this would be a great avenue to accept donations from foreign or nefarious actors.

Archery rings were worn on the thumb of the archer’s release hand to protect it from the thrust of the bowstring

Just build it in to everything else. Introducing additional avenues for fuckups helps no one and it's extra painful to pay your taxes both mentally and logistically.

Where does the forgiveness come from? After paying for my education I now pay a bunch of taxes, I assume that's what is paying for their education? So the cartoon should say, I just fought and beat cancer and now I need to go work on a cute. "They" cutting cancer is not the same.

I love this lamp. How do I stain glass?

I imagine all timestamps are rare. I.e only one exists of each until there is a rollover.

When this happened several years back and they gave us two sick days, our company just went ahead and shifted two of our PTO days to sick days.
