I can guarantee you have put way more thought into this than he ever has, or will.
This post is pure unfiltered 100% awesome! I find I’m frequently having anxiety attacks these days because of… , but reading this massive in-depth writeup, just letting me soak in a hobby I love but don’t have much time for as I’d like, has relaxed me more than anything has in months. Thank you so much! 🙏 I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for these in the future!
It reminded me, very randomly, of quote from a book about urban design and how architectural ideas are introduced and accepted by the public… or not.
From this the "principle of the second man" can be formulated: it is the second man who determines whether the creation of the first man will be carried forward or destroyed...
It was a golden chance and a room full of cowards let it slip.

As someone who lives in Japan, that is true as long as you stay inside the tourist bubble. Once you start venturing into places not meant for visitors, the difficulty goes from 0 to 100 real quick. Might I also suggest that another possibility is that until very recently, there has been so little gay representation on TV that merely depicting it at all, as Discovery has done, can feel jarring to some.
A friend of mine was complaining about the same thing back on Season 1, but I asked him if it had been a hetero couple shown brushing their teeth together or having a smooch would he have minded and he admitted probably not. We chalked it up to just not being used to seeing that with a gay couple on tv.
Just a thought.
What a horrible day to have sight.
Oh god, I forgot about that! Season 1 of this show just really needs to be chucked into a memory hole. I don’t understand how people defend it as “the only decent season of DSC.” It’s absolutely wretched by every measure, but even more so when measured against the tone and optimism that’s vital to Trek. Subsequent seasons are fumbling messes, sure, but the first is a special kind of awful.
If your organization is too big to act with integrity then maybe it’s time to downsize a bit.
