The LAST thing we need is Google, who has abandoned and ruined multiple chat applications and platforms, pushing any new messaging protocol.

iMessage is popular because

  • It works
  • It hasn't changed, or when it has changed has kept excellent backwards compatibility with older clients
  • Is encrypted end-to-end
  • Will continue to be supported long term.

So no, Google should have ZERO say in messaging.

I'm aware https://github.com/jetbridge/lemmy-cdk exists, but it's fairly older and not recommended. Lemmy Admins / Wizards how are you deploying to AWS?
