The LAST thing we need is Google, who has abandoned and ruined multiple chat applications and platforms, pushing any new messaging protocol.

iMessage is popular because

It works
It hasn't changed, or when it has changed has kept excellent backwards compatibility with older clients
Is encrypted end-to-end
Will continue to be supported long term.

So no, Google should have ZERO say in messaging.
