Terrible. I just realized that I applied to multiple jobs with a typo in my resume. I've been agonizing over my applications and my resume for months now. I've been re-writing it, re-organizing it, going over everything with a fine tooth comb. However, I somehow missed the typo in the email. I started a new address centered on career stuff with a signature and my name in it. However, the ending is not a .com and it was easy to mistype. Now I'm on the verge of tears because I'm pretty sure this world is unforgiving with stuff like that.

Finally got an evaluation and my diagnosis. The specialist I was working with said I scored high and recommended amphetamines. My PCP gave me a very low dose extended release Adderall. Today is my first day on it... I feel weird. I don't feel wired or anything. My blood pressure is lightly elevated, I have a slight headache, and I feel like someone put one of those lead blankets from the dentist's office on me. I feel calmer and like I should be sleepy... but I'm not sleepy. This is a strange feeling. It slightly feels like when I was on Zoloft, which I liken to walking outside into heavy snow and everything is dampened... but it's not quite like that either because Zoloft made me into a lazy potato. So, how long does it take for me to get adjust to this? My PCP told me I don't have to take it daily. I plan on having "off" days when I'm not working or doing grad school stuff.

For people who are afraid that raising wages will mean less people employed: for the most part, wage demand is pretty inelastic. Studies have shown that wages changes really don't mess with numbers employed that much. Most places only want to employ the least number of people they can already. They can't go lower, generally.

I guess I'm one of the few voices of dissent again... I enjoyed last week's episode, but this episode is disappointing again. The romance between La'an was very unnecessary and unnatural. They had no chemistry and it felt incredibly awkward. I still can't stand their choice for Kirk. Feels like I'm watching Darrin from Bewitched (or some other "ordinary working man" type character) doing cosplay and not a star ship captain, and certainly not a captain like Kirk. Not only does he not have "the look," but I hated the way he delivered all his lines.

The only breath of fresh air for me is that a disaster takes place someplace other than New York, LA, or the US in general. However, they definitely didn't hire enough extras for Toronto. Everywhere looked too under populated and not enough racial diversity (ie: where were all the Asians? Toronto is filled with East, South, Subcontinental Asians). I've never seen the streets of Toronto so sparse.

I for certain see the context. It's just frustrating watching from a contemporary lens, especially as a woman. Many of us, including me, have experienced unwanted advances that escalated into harassment, verbal abuse, assault (an entire range of physical contact). As much as I'm enjoying the show, but this aspect makes me feel uncomfortable and somewhat angry.

Therein my frustrations with older Trek. I see and appreciate what they were trying to do, but their inherent biases were on full display despite creating a show about a better progressive future.

I'm making my way through DS9 for the first time (almost finished with season two). For reference, I've seen TOG, TNG, all the new movies, Discovery, Lower Decks, and SNW. DS9 season one was a little slow to pick up, but my husband and I are loving season two. As always, Star Trek addresses a lot of hard hitting issues in very nuanced ways. It's also great continuously seeing fantastic representation in even older episodes (mainly women and people of colour in prominent and varied positions).

But when we get to more women specific issues, things are seriously lacking. Basically, almost any scene with the Ferengis interacting with women are problematic. I understand that they are a highly misogynistic race, but my discomfort and annoyance is with how others react to them. The Grand Nagus sexually assaulting women, especially Kira, is never actually fully addressed. It's just seen as an annoyance to be put up with. Quark is often seen as aggressively pursuing women, often with unwanted touches and other advances. Even if it's at first the women in question is disinterested, they relent in some way, either completely or they tell him something flattering/of chances in the future. Thankfully, so far, none of the main women characters have given into his advances, but it's common for one off and guest characters to somehow be "charmed" by him, even those from more egalitarian civilizations (eg: Vulcan).

I know DS9 was made prior to #MeToo, but it's still worth pointing out where Star Trek can and have improved (thankfully newer Trek has less of these issues), and when some of the portrayals in the past are rather inconsistent with the philosophies of the Federation. Of course, the Federation operates with a level of cultural relativism, but it still doesn't make sense to me how the Grand Nagus (and Ferengis in general) were allowed to assault and harass those outside of their culture/species on an interstellar, multi-cutural, Federation run space station. Star Trek in the 90s was trying to a lot of good, but watching it now, there's definitely quite a few aspects that are unsatisfying.

I just want to say that despite June starting off with duds, all the rainy items have been to die for. I'm so glad they're finally giving us more stand-alone trees of good size. And I still can't get over that pond from the fishing event. I wish we could've gotten two.

I think mander.xyz is having some issues right now. Neither links work even though they were working earlier.

Just judging by the subreddit, this community is likely not going to see a huge membership. I don't want to cut anyone out. I'm fine with everyone sharing the space and just specifying which region they are posting about.

More of that is going to happen in the US with the way things are going here. 😤

For one, I consider understanding human anatomy to be basic knowledge for adults. It’s a huge turn off when I run into people (overwhelmingly men) who think menstruation is taboo and refuse to learn or hear about it. Everyone should know about biological functions that happen to human beings. It’s natural and it happens to most women once a month. That’s a lot! And it’s literally essential for the continuation of our species.

As for dating purposes, if a (prospective) partner responds to mentions of menstruation with disgust and comments like “ew, I don’t want to hear about that,” that’s a huge red flag for a lack of maturity. Unfortunately, it is incredibly common. However if my husband, who went to Catholic school his entire life, can figure it out through research and having basic empathy, it’s not an excuse for any adult male to be ignorant on this subject.

As someone who actually enjoyed Discovery, that’s one of the things I couldn’t stand about it. And it really disappoints me that they used it here. You can’t have the stakes of every damn episode be that high, so it really bothers me that we get it in the first episode of the season. I really hope it’s not a sign of things to come.

I understand if I get a slew of downvotes, but I thought that episode was pretty bad. The pacing was weird and many of the sequences involving the mining planet felt poorly written (what's with the Witcher potion?). I feel like I'm the only person not into the whole Spock/Chapel thing, so seeing that pushed harder was cringe for me.
