About a dozen police cars just pulled up and blocked the Rupert / Broadway intersection in East Van. Anyone know what was going on?

P is the Proportional Limit, where it stops being linear, but remains elastic for a short while longer, meaning any deformation can still be recovered. E is the Elastic Limit, where it changes from elastic to plastic

Indian summer (n.)

"spell of warm, dry, hazy weather after the first frost" (happening anywhere from mid-September to nearly December, according to location), 1774, North American English (also used in eastern Canada), perhaps so called because it was first noted in regions then still inhabited by Indians, in the upper Mississippi valley west of the Appalachians, or because the Indians first described it to the Europeans. No evidence connects it with the color of fall leaves, or to a season of renewed Indian attacks on settlements due to renewed warm weather (a widespread explanation dating at least to the 1820s).

I've heard about LASIM a few times now, this great tool for migrating Lemmy subscriptions from one account to another. I downloaded it from Github recently to try it out... only problem? I have no clue how to get it to run. All the instruction I read online just say "run LASIM" as if it's that trivial and leave me feeling silly.

Can anyone explain this in terms that I (not an experienced programmer) could understand? Am I missing something really obvious?

Edit; I'm on Windows if that matters

I've had this happen a few times now. I type up a nice post, then add a URL in the "Post URL" field when I'm done, and it deletes everything I've typed. Infuriating for longer text posts... anyone else have this happen?

The noise. FML. If I have to listen to another coworker take calls at the top of their voice one cubicle over...

This is terrible. Please keep it up with the incorrect quotes!

I hope this is the right community to post in.

This is one functionality from Reddit I find myself missing quite a bit. Is there any way I can subscribe to a single post (that I didn't make) and get a notification whenever someone comments? I'm on Connect for Lemmy, but maybe a different app would offer this?

I was shocked how much getting a password manager simplified my life. No more trying to remember obscure number conbinations, or going the 'forgot password' route for sites I rarely use. It's honestly even better than I expected. Bitwarden FTW!

This was definitely one of the crazier bushwhacks I've done lately... was able to walk right up to within 20 metres of GZ, but those last 20 metres took about 15 minutes of climbing over dense, absolutely pathless foliage. I had my doubts on finding this because there were several prior DNFs, but in the end it felt very worth it for an almost 3 years lonely find.

Exactly one year ago today, thousands of geocachers and explorers gathered in Seattle, Washington, to celebrate over 20 years of geocaching. The official event ended up with over 2,700 Attended logs! Was anyone from Lemmy there, too?

This cache was placed on November 29, 2002. After finding it lying out in the open, I was amazed to discover the original log book still intact, with entries dating back to the FTF (names redacted for privacy):
