I’m not sure on this one, but it may depend on the printer. Printing on Linux for me has been the easiest process ever. Windows fights me at every corner, but Linux sees my network printers and they just work out of the box. (I’ve only used Brother printers for the last 20 years)

I've been seeing a lot of information lately about mozilla, and a lot of questionable claims being made about their "direction." The bulk of their revenue comes from google, and I have been working very hard to de-google everything I can. I have moved away from drive, gmail, search, etc.

I am using Fedora on all my computers, and am logged into firefox on each of them so I have complete sync with all my devices. Are the posts I am seeing blown out of proportion, or should I be looking for another browser?

Thanks in advance!

I am using (and loving) Fedora 40 as my daily driver. Currently using GNOME however, I do prefer the customization and aesthetics of KDE better.

I primarily use my computer for gaming, and my wife sometimes likes to watch the games I play. (Baldurs Gate 3 for example. She loved watching the story, but wasn't interested in playing) Anyways, I play on a 32" 1440p monitor at 165hz via DisplayPort. We also have a projector which supports either 1080p or 4k, but not 1440p, and is also limited to 60hz via HDMI. In the past, when I was using KDE (Also on a different distro, GarudaKDE I think), it basically had non-existent support for screen mirroring with different resolutions and refresh rates. Gnome does not have this problem. So I am able to play on my monitor with an HDMI cable running to our projector running a mirrored display at a different resolution and refresh rate.

Lately, Gnome is feeling a little too "clunky" for my tastes, and I have been considering switching to KDE. Does anyone know if my screen mirroring question above is possible in Fedora KDE, or if I will run into similar challenges?

Thanks in advance!

Gen-X here with 2 Gen-Z kids. I developed my typing skills playing MUDS in the early 90’s. My kids are….ok….at typing, and despite my guidance over the years, are really bad at troubleshooting though when something goes wrong. It should “just work” to them. If it doesn’t, then the solution is to replace it.

However, I WILL SAY…my typing speed is about 100-110 WPM on a keyboard, and that my daughter could probably match that speed typing on her phone.

Same thing happened to me recently, like literally 2 days ago. I’ve been wanting to switch for good for years, but always ended up having some problem pop up that I would try to deal with, and eventually go back to windows.

Well, 2 nights ago, I’m playing a game on steam. Middle of a boss fight, my computer just shuts down to start installing windows updates. When it finally finished, not only did I lose my progress, but because the game was not shut down correctly, it corrupted several files and needed a reinstall.

I literally used Chris Titus Techs Win10 tool to disable windows updates until I choose to run them, as well as ShutUp10 to disable ALL M$’s bullshit.

Update happened anyway, and sure enough, all their spyware had been re-enabled. At that point, I started asking around online for recommendations on what would work best for my use cases, with a few specific tools I needed. In the past, I had used several distros that really didn’t do what I needed, or would get me 90% of the way there. Problem was, that other 10% was a pretty important 10%. Someone told me to try just regular old vanilla Fedora. I did, actually learned how to setup, configure, and use Gnome extensions to get it to look and feel the way I want it to. Been having the best experience ever; EVERYTHING just works out of the box. At this point, I have successfully and fully converted!

Edit: grammar and typos

For me it’s gmail. I’ve disconnected from everything else, but I have WAY TOO MANY things connected to and through my gmail account.

I’ve also been saying this for a long time, only to be dismissed by most who are apathetic to what’s going on. So now, if I do have to deal with them, I only ever make purchases on my credit card, and if there is a problem, they get 1 chance to fix it before I dispute. In the last year, I’ve had to dispute 3 separate times. On the latest one, the item was never delivered. I asked for a refund or replacement, customer service was useless, so I sent in documents to my bank and disputed. What does Amazon do? They sent their “counter of my claim” to the bank from the shipping SHOWING THE ITEM TO BE UNDELIVERABLE as reason why the charge should not be reversed. My bank sided with me luckily. But they are truly awful now, and have been for a while.

Out of curiosity, why Telegram? (Im out of the loop on this one)

As for uTorrent, I’ve got version 2.2.1 and have never allowed it to update in the last decade or however long it’s been. I think that was the last version that didn’t allow any ads or otherwise and was simply a solid p2p client at the time.

The only reason I have Netflix is because I don’t pay for it. I get it free with Tmobile. I wonder how much of these are from TMO new users instead of organic subscriptions

I don't know if it's in your budget, but my wife and I went with an ultra short throw projector and ALR screen. No smart features at all, and a better and larger picture in our living room. We'll never go back to TVs again.
