Volt Typhoon have been discovered in critical infrastructureānot universitiesāacross the world using lotl techniques. they are a group not hacking for espionage but hacking to directly sabotage their targetsā¦ i.e. shutting down electricity grids, telecommunications, water, etc.
also, they are not āPRC-sponsoredā, they are the PRC, more specifically the PLA.
China: makes 5g infara and full set of bands for compliant phones
USA: Bans Chinese phones
USA: Makes half assed 5g infara so the megacorp ISPs can market the crap out of it
USA: Sells incomplete 5g band phones with horrendous compliancy and support for 5g towers
USA: "why would China do dis? We must ban them from 6g!"
It's pretty hilarious how the west keeps walling themselves off from the rest of the world.
It's nice that we finally have a global standard that works everywhere so when you're abroad you don't need to buy a local cellphone anymore. If it fragments again, many countries in asia and africa might go with chinese 6g for cost reason and fragment the world again.
