I'm still on a Fairphone 4 -- in fact, in December it surpassed all my previous smartphones as the one I've owned and used the longest since smartphones became a thing. However, I'm on CalyxOS and have always used a GCam port for taking photos. So I'm not sure if I will get this camera software update or if I have to move back to the (buggy) stock Fairphone OS to see the changes.
That's the thing. They don't make their camera app available to third party ROMs despite officially cooperating with one, and they also haven't made the camera's features available to third party camera apps. So for me, being on CalyxOS myself, that announcement email read like a joke.
How has your experience been so far? I might get the fairphone 6 as my next phone (if it releases in like 3-5 years)
I have a Fairphone 4 since release. There where some bugs for the first couple of months. Now everything works as it should and I have no complaints regarding day to day usage. I am not using my phone for much more than messaging, navigation and some light web browsing though, so my experience might not be representative.
Bring Fairphones to North America already, ffs! 😂
I've been enjoying my Fairphone 4 a lot since getting it last year. This camera update really improved the experience of taking photos.
I'm loving the new camera update and I don't have anyone to tell... I think it's awesome they're doing this for a previous-generation phone.
That's cool… but what really pissed me off about the default camera app on the FP4, is that the "show in gallery" feature is completely broken if you disable Google photos.
EDIT: Holy shit, they fixed it. I can't believe it!
