Donate to the GoFundMe of the guy who leaked Trump’s tax returns instead https://www.gofundme.com/f/charles-littlejohns-legal-defense-fund

He got 5 years in prison so we could all see Trump’s grift.

[-] ninjan@lemmy.mildgrim.com 55 points 1 year ago

Insane that he got the absolute max sentence for the "crime" he committed. It's such a gross signal. Had he taken hundreds of random Joe's tax returns and leaked to the press absolutely nothing would have happened and if he even got caught, like by turning himself in, he would've gotten a mild sentence. But now it was wealthy and powerful folk and thus he gets hammered as hard as the law allows.

[-] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 42 points 1 year ago

Compare that to the paltry wrist slaps the capitol insurrectionists got.

[-] BigMacHole@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

This is a message to our ENEMIES around the World that there's SERIOUS HARSH PUNISHMENTS if they leak a Rich Person's Tax Returns! So they better stick to JUST Violent Insurrection and attempted Assassination of Government Officials INSTEAD!

From GoFundMe terms, prohibited uses;

  1. the legal defense of alleged financial and violent crimes;

So I reported it. I'm very interested if they're going to let this slide because that kind of makes their terms of service open for legal challenge if they decide to block someone else for a similar thing, i.e. paying of fines for financial fraud.

[-] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 42 points 1 year ago

"alleged ... crimes"

.... Court decided he was guilty. There is no alleged about it lol

[-] Burn_The_Right@lemmy.world 30 points 1 year ago

They're going to tell you to go fund yourself.

[-] pivot_root@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago

They'll probably make an exception because those crimes are not alleged anymore. If they don't... this, but with Trump supporters.

[-] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Please keep us informed!

[-] wolfpack86@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Technically it's not paying for his defense :)

[-] cm0002@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Oooo I want to report it to!

[-] Jaysyn@kbin.social 92 points 1 year ago

It's already been canceled. You can't use GFM to pay off civil or criminal fines.

[-] 0110010001100010@lemmy.world 51 points 1 year ago

It's still up on the site, I'm not going to link it because that seems like a bad idea. There were donations as of a few minutes ago.

[-] Jaysyn@kbin.social 32 points 1 year ago

You're right, my wife told me it was a ToS violation & I thought she read it online.

[-] Teon@kbin.social 71 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Trump is not a billionaire, never was. No one that rich needs everyone to pay his bills.
He is just a welfare brat scamming people. Everything he owns is mortgaged to the hilt.
MAGA exists to financially support #TraitorTrump.

[-] Kbin_space_program@kbin.social 26 points 1 year ago

Alternatively, he might be a billionaire now with the insanely inflated land bubble valuations.

And cheating people out of their money is absolutely on brand for billionaires.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

Yeah, I was going to say... people that rich never pay their bills.

If you owe the bank $100 that's your problem. If you owe the bank $100 million, that's the bank's problem.

Honestly I have nothing but respect for people who manage to fleece Trump supporters with shit like this. Didn't somebody rake and millions of dollars that was supposed to go to the wall?

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

It's probably the most important thing we can strive for, is to make it cost, ideally severely, to support Trump.

I hope nothing more than that this grifter asks his supporters to open their pocket books to pay his debts.

It costs money to go to Washington to overthrow the government. It costs time away from work and gas to be a part of a bunch of tool bags in a caravan to stop an imagined threat at the boarder. The more we can cost these people the less effective they can be.

I'd guess that the rules of user engagement follow for Trump's base as they do for almost all other social systems. So maybe only 1/1000th of his the people that voted for him are 'true believer's. If we can get those individuals financially destitute, we might be able to stop the movement.

Shrödinger’s billionaire.

[-] BackOnMyBS@lemmy.world 24 points 1 year ago

The top donation is $5k, but I'm tempted to think that was someone associated with him making a huge donation to make MAGA followers think that people are giving that much. I just can't imagine a middle-class person doing that.

[-] Pretzilla@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago

Or money laundering

[-] cathyk@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Seeding the tip jar.

[-] ScottThePoolBoy@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Isn't it funny how crowd funding is like socialism but him and his people think it's evil and bad...

[-] Hello_there@kbin.social 20 points 1 year ago

So, someone please take this idea and do it. Make one of these campaigns, but be very careful to make it neutral language. E.g., pay legal fees related to the case of state of NY against trump enterprises LLC or etc. And for the reason that it was an unfair that all these funds had to be expended on this outrageous lawsuit.
All sounds legit, right?
Except the sponsor writes a check to state of NY general fund.

[-] Dkarma@lemmy.world 23 points 1 year ago

I honestly thought about this. "Help trump get the justice he deserves"

[-] Pretzilla@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

But send the money to Ukraine. They are the immediate victims of the pootin/drumft collaboration.

[-] littlebluespark@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago

The fucking idiots just line up

I should do a gofundme to “help Trump supporter get the legal defense spending Trump deserves.” You guys are cool with me buying a castle with the money, right?

[-] Senseless@feddit.de 7 points 1 year ago

Only if you invite me to a feast on the castle.

Yet another example of how a fool and their money are easily parted.

[-] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

The gofundme description stars like this:

My name is Elena Cardone and I am a wife of Grant Cardone, mother and an ardent supporter of American values and an advocate for justice, I stand unwaveringly with President Donald Trump in the face of what I see as unprecedented and unfair treatment by certain judicial elements in New York.

[-] dave@feddit.uk 16 points 1 year ago

“a wife of Grant Cardone”

[-] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

It's a life achievement! That said, I thought he was gay. I guess they're just sucking up to trump now

[-] Pretzilla@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Sister wife?

[-] Nobody@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

SuperPAC money is unregulated enough to pay court-ordered fines. Drain all the accounts.

Then drain the RNC to pay the 8-figure legal fees.

[-] MGN22@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

No matter who you vote for, your life isn't going to improve unless YOU do something about it. People have been fighting about politics since politics began. You're not special. Put that energy into something useful.

[-] Seraph@kbin.social 9 points 1 year ago

Just realized how to destroy GoFundMe - have the platform allow negative donations.

You want them to be $100 further from their goal? Fucking sure pass the cash.

[-] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

To clarify... would you, a user, donate 100 dollars to the platform to push the campaign further from the goal? Or would you as the user graciously offer to be paid 100$ to move Trump further from their goal?
