Grill dodged a bullet with this one. This anon seems to be really dumb. What kind of person never opens a gifted book, let alone one that is a gift from a girl? A person that doesn't read shit, that kind of person. She was clearly above him.

[-] stebo02@lemmy.dbzer0.com 37 points 11 months ago

Yeah I think this is obvious, anon clearly didn't give a shit about the gift so it's a clear sign for her to move on.

[-] fibojoly@sh.itjust.works 10 points 11 months ago

Nature taking its course.

[-] Sodis@feddit.de 8 points 10 months ago

Well, I got one once during a secret santa event. Put it on my to read list and never came around to it. Then I lent it to a friend and he told me, that there is a note for me inside, that I didn't know about.

[-] Yeller_king@reddthat.com 3 points 10 months ago

Secret Santa is clearly not the same as a gift from someone you're romantically interested in, though.

[-] Sodis@feddit.de 1 points 10 months ago

True, but he wasn't, she was.

Could've just never got around it. "I'll check it out tomorrow", then days turn to weeks and so on. Happens

plot twist: it was actually a girl the whole time and not a grill

Anon was on fire!

Plot twist: the grill who gave him the book was actually just the lady who works at the books store. The "romantic note" was a receipt for the 10 volumes of Shota manga Anon had them special order for him. When he saw that it said "please shop with us again" at the bottom he almost fainted.

This makes me irrationally angry lol

[-] bionicjoey@lemmy.ca 30 points 11 months ago

Don't worry, it's not real.

Read that as acoustic and was wondering what music we were listening to.

The lamentations of the people getting triggered as intended by op.

[-] SuddenDownpour@sh.itjust.works 4 points 10 months ago

People will really say that even the most normal ass green texts are fake huh

[-] bionicjoey@lemmy.ca 6 points 10 months ago

Yes. Literally nothing on 4chan is real. Is it your first day on the internet or something?

[-] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 64 points 10 months ago

100% deserved, at least open the fucking gift and don't lie to her about doing so. Girl dodged a huge bullet.

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 15 points 11 months ago

Anon meant so much to her she couldn’t ask if he found the note?

[-] Asafum@feddit.nl 32 points 11 months ago

How is it her fault that he couldn't even be bothered to open a present from someone?

He sounds like he deserves to be single.

[-] RealFknNito@lemmy.world 15 points 11 months ago

Well it's a good thing these stories are fake. The first time I heard it was from a standup comic where his grandma gave him a bible when he went off to college and she said to read it any time he needed money. In the pages was a note telling him to fuck off.

[-] Soulg@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

Anthony Jeselnik. Fantastic comic

[-] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

Anon should've probably at least opened the book but she also put all her hopes into that single note. Pretty silly move

[-] stebo02@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 11 months ago

well it was pretty clear he didn't, why would she have to ask?

[-] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

I mean if she wanted to know how he felt about her

[-] stebo02@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 10 months ago

you mean she could've avoided wasting money on a book? I guess, but confessing through this way is kind of cute.

[-] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

I mean yeah, simplest would've been just to ask. The book and the note was a cute idea but didn't quite play out the way she was hoping lol

[-] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 6 points 10 months ago

Gifting someone something and taking the time to write a thoughtful note is a very nice thing people do for each other.

Typically you respond in kind with a “thank you for the gift and the card/note/well wishes attached”.

These are what would be considered “polite social norms”.

The girl slipping a note in to the gift and saying her feelings also is not crazy. It can be hard to put yourself out there.

HOWEVER if someone straight snubs your gift it’s gonna be shitty even if it’s from a friend. He snubbed her, she got the message even if he didn’t know he was answering.

This is normal human behavior folks.

This would haunt me forever til near suicide. I'd remember this whenever I feel alone...which would be hourly.

Edit: I'm talking about that missed once in a lifetime opportunity by being stupid.

[-] runjun@lemmy.world 9 points 11 months ago

No, it wouldn’t because you would at crack open the book. It’s extremely common to write a note in the first few pages of a gifted book.

[-] bane_killgrind@lemmy.ml 4 points 11 months ago

Don't worry, you will find something else that will haunt you forever.

[-] arin@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Book sucks tho, Anon dodged a weirdo

[-] SomeGuy69@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago

It doesn't matter at all if the book sucked.

[-] arin@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Clearly it did for him. What if it was about horoscopes and the healing powers of birthday stones and essential oils?

[-] SomeGuy69@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

These books have no plot.

[-] chicken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 11 months ago

Sounds like she wanted it but was committed to taking the advice of that John Waters quote

[-] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 months ago

“I’ve always been willing to sell out. It’s just that no one has been willing to buy”

Ah yes, a timeless quote.

[-] chicken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 10 months ago

I meant the one about gatekeeping sex on bookreading but that could work too

[-] Steamymoomilk@sh.itjust.works 4 points 11 months ago
