BBC article giving more information https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-67920532

TL:DR "Taiwanese voters have chosen William Lai as their president in a historic election, cementing a path that is increasingly divergent from China."

Why does the order of the parties in the key change for each year?

[-] randint@lemmy.frozeninferno.xyz 10 points 10 months ago

Because the candidates get assigned a number at random before the election. The key is just sorting the candidates by their assigned number.

So why is the KMT so popular in Miaoli? Otherwise this would basically be a straight urban-rural split, with just a bit of ambiguity in the capital.

[-] totalitarian_jesus@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

These parts people care more about “their guy” than about ideology or partisanal politics. Their guys happened to be with the KMT.

[-] CanadaPlus@futurology.today 2 points 10 months ago

Well, that's not an uncommon story around the world. Is there history around the KMT in Miaoli specifically?

Wow... TPP took a look of votes away from DPP. And only one election cycle away. That's impressive if not suspicious.

[-] deegeese@sopuli.xyz 10 points 10 months ago

What is suspicious? Was there evidence of fraud or is this just sowing doubt over an election you didn’t like?

[-] CluelessLemmyng@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 10 months ago

Using a third party to siphon votes from a popular party to get the second party in power is common. It doesn't take much stretch of the imagination to wonder if TPP is propped by CCP funds and influence.

But the 2nd party still lost by quite a bit.

This sounds like liberal opposition you simply don’t like.

Single-winner elections should not sum to 100%.
