I mean preaching to the choir. We all knew he cared about money and not the experience in games.

I am shocked to see capitalist behavior from a capitalist in a capitalist corporation.

Fuck capitalism.

[-] ICastFist@programming.dev 13 points 10 months ago

Investors don't give a flying fuck, after all. Same with music and movies. It doesn't matter if it's shit, so long as it's profitable. Kotick is just one among a long line of fucking scumbags whose job is satisfying those vultures.

Just capitalist scum doing capitalism things

[-] Quacksalber@sh.itjust.works 34 points 10 months ago

And people still playing those games. Kotick wouldn't be as successful if those that usually buy Activision titles would care enough about the games getting worse.

[-] dallo@lemmy.kiois.net 9 points 10 months ago

True. Keep pushing the boycott.

[-] Quacksalber@sh.itjust.works 13 points 10 months ago

It's not going to work. For every person that hears the calls to boycott and acts on it, ten others won't. For every person that hears the calls to boycott, ten others won't hear that call at all. The only viable way of cutting into CoD in my opinion is to give people an alternative to play.

Battlebit Remastered is quite good, but it aims to undercut Battlefield.

[-] Coreidan@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago

Battlefield is undercutting itself by being terrible. Battlebit is restoring what originally made battlefield great but has since been stripped out.

The only viable way of cutting into CoD in my opinion is to give people an alternative to play.

A better alternative needs to supplant CoD's place in the minds of the casual gaming crowd. I know so many people who don't care about industry drama and just buy the latest CoD, Madden, etc. game every year simply because it's the thing to do.

[-] otp@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 months ago

And because it's what all their friends are playing.

If the whole school is playing CoD, you'll be left out of you're playing a better game.

Wouldn't the time to speak out have been a long time ago? What good do these people think they are doing now? Fuck em, too scared to say anything when it mattered but want to give themselves a big pat on the back for saying what a lot of other people were already saying for a long time.

[-] tigerjerusalem@lemmy.world 36 points 10 months ago

Now that's a condescending shit talk. They may like their job, they could be working behind the scenes to try and contain the damage. They could be doing the best they could do with the little power they had. You try to speak against your boss alone and trash the industry you're in, see how well it goes for you.

[-] cyberpunk007@lemmy.world 14 points 10 months ago

Also they probably value having a job and it isn't always so easy to just get a new one. When you weigh all that against some people on the Internet not happy with their video game they don't need to play, it's a pretty ridiculous comment lol

[-] Kbobabob@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

They could, they may,... Just make up whatever you want i guess.

Weak effort at trolling, chap. Very weak.

The first quoted person in the article says they said they spoke up at a company meeting in front of him to say he should be fired.

[-] gamermanh@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 10 months ago

But not the media?

A story like this would have exploded had they gone to media outlets, I find it hard to believe someone would call him out in person but not be willing to turn media when that failed.

It really does feel like "oh no I was saying stuff back then, promise" to only speak up now

[-] KyuubiNoKitsune 13 points 10 months ago

Have you read Bobby's Wikipedia page? The media knows he's a big piece of shit who literally told the board his intent was to make the devs hate making games.

Its not some secret.

[-] wagoner@infosec.pub 1 points 10 months ago

I mean, sure, but that guy did more than almost anyone would be prepared to do (or did). So I give them respect for that, and don't also demand they should have taken another step that I would have liked them to.

[-] lolcatnip@reddthat.com 15 points 10 months ago

If you want us to take you seriously, shit talk your boss for us by name, and tell us your real name.

[-] Kbobabob@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

I don't work for pieces of shit so i don't need to...

But if that were to happen again then i would certainly call it out. Some of my coworkers in the past tried to bully me because i have values and don't believe in deceiving someone just to get a sale.

[-] EnderMB@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

I'm sure that everyone speaking out now probably said the exact same things back then...

[-] mriormro@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Hey man, you don't have to be a complete piece of shit just because you didn't like how they made your particular flavor of call of duty.

That's a real person, your games are fake.

[-] Kbobabob@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Lol. Ok. I don't even think i play anything he was a part of. I'm not into that kind of stuff, but my kids are... So yeah, i have an opinion. Sorry it didn't align with yours and i guess that makes me a piece of shit.

[-] griffin@lemm.ee 6 points 10 months ago

Good, now let's see if their games will improve.
