It's almost as if different groups of people have been fighting over the same smidge of land for a really long time.

Honestly, probably the most contested* area throughout history. Maybe after Anatolia, but that has been relatively peaceful in my lifetime so it feels different.

*And by that I mean contested by the most powerful players at their respective times. I'm sure there are places that have had more consistent fueds at a much smaller scale.

Well humans have been fighting each other since before civilization began and that area is one of the oldest civilized areas.

As if being Palestinian and jewish is mutually exclusive. Maybe it is now, but it wasn't like that since forever.

[-] SmoothOperator@lemmy.world 74 points 11 months ago

Does being a Jewish Palestinian somehow make you Israeli? What then if you're a non-Jewish Israeli? 🤔

[-] alexiascylding 81 points 11 months ago

zionists seem to ignore that jewish palestinians exist. frankly if you read about the discrimination faced by mizrahi jews (descendants of jewish communities from north africa and the middle east) it seems clear that Israel doesnt care about all jews but more specifically ashkenazi jews. Not saying those are the bad guys or anything but the government of Israel clearly favors them in a systemic way similar to how white people are favored in europe and north america

That comparison at the end is a bit too nice on Israel (and that's saying something considering Europes and North Americas racism).

I thought the Romans just called the region Judaea the way the Hellenic region was Greece and the Deutch Rheinland was Germania

Geography can be confusing.

Why is the Jewish part highlighted? You can be Jewish and from Palestine, but right after that is written "Galilee (Formerly Palestine, now Northern Israel)" Which completely invalidates what this post is trying to say. Why act like someone alive thousands of years ago has some kind of stake in this war? I'm sure that if Jesus existed, he would probably disapprove of genocide, terrorism, and war all together.

Google just highlights the answer in the source it found. It's not the poster that highlighted it.
