Wind Waker for me !
Definitely one of my favorites! I've been playing Zelda games since the OG Legend of Zelda on NES, and Wind Waker, particularly the HD remake left me with that really great sense of big world adventure. It was this game that pushed me to get a full sleeve tattoo themed completely around Wind Waker! It's currently in progress and almost complete. Maybe a few more sessions to get it done. Such a great game!
Breath of the Wild. We themed our wedding on it.
Any photos to share? π₯Ίπ₯Ί
Not publicly, but I will tell you we bought a pile of silk stargazer lillies and hand painted all of them to look like silent princesses. All of the floral was otherwise white, so it was very striking.
Awesome ππ any Zelda music?
a link to the past
i never got into the 3d Zelda games. after playing so long in 2d it just fundamentally changed things into a different game to go 3d. it doesn't scratch the same itch
To avoid recency bias, I'm going to not say Tears of the Kingdom and say Breath of the Wild, which is my all-time favorite video game. Not counting the newest game, my top 5 are:
- Breath of the Wild
- Wind Waker HD
- A Link to the Past
- The Legend of Zelda
- Twilight Princess
Tears of the Kingdom is my favorite, and before that it was BOTW. Third favorite goes to OOT or ALTTP.
Majora's Mask easily, followed closely by Wind Waker, Ocarina of Time, and Twilight Princess.
The classic style Zelda formula (that was introduced in the OG Zelda and then refined to perfection in ALTTP and OoT) is perfect and didn't need to be changed up.
I played only Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, BotW and TotK. Among these, I must say TotK is my favorite.
All games are memorable in their own way but I'm a sucker for open world and immersive sim and TotK scratches all my itches. There are somethings I liked more on BotW (story/characters and dungeons) but the new toys and much expanded map more than makes up for it.
For nostalgic reasons, mine is also Ocarina of Time, for sure. Majora's Mask is a close second.
I think Tears of The Kingdom is my favorite gameplay-wise.
The Link's Awakening remake gets an honorable mention, cause that game is amazing.
Mine would be Links Awakening (the original one on Game Boy). It was the first one I played. As a portable Zelda game, it was awesome. The story was good and the game played really well. I also tried the DX version and that was great too.
Did you play the one on the Switch ? If so, what did you think about it ? I only played the new one on the Switch and it played very well, but I wondered what someone who played the original would think.
I never played the one on the switch. I played the game boy versions only. Even then, they were great.
Do you mean links awakening on switch?
Zelda 3 / link between worlds semi-remake/ reimagining was on 3DS , and was amazing π
Either BotW or TotK. I believe those games are absolutely incredible. It's designed so wonderfully! Everything in the game just makes sense.
Though I never fully played through them, OoT and MM have big nostalgia for me from watching my friends play them as a kid.
Twilight princess hands down. I adore that game
Growing up I played ALttP and OoT, then later I really got into TP, and then as an adult I did the same with BOTW. But then I played ALBW and that's when Zelda finally clicked to me and I became a fan of the series. Went back to play and finish the other games with the newfound love of the series, but ALBW is still my favorite. I really love OoT, MM and TP now too, though.
Ocarina of time was awesome, my first proper 3D Zelda. However they are all awesome. Windwaker was underrated in my opinion, and the new ones are awesome if in a different way.
Ocarina was my first and absolutely loved it and MM
I was always torn as to weather my fav was ocarina or breath of the wild - but now I'll say confidently that my fav Zelda game is tears of the kingdom - I'm 90 hours in and feel like I haven't gotten that far through the whole game but I'm having a blast β‘β‘β‘
Tears of the Kingdom does have a nasty habit of sucking all of your time in exchange for fun. I'm amazed at how fun it is to play this game.
I finally finished the main story but still have SO much to do and every time I play, I look at the time and wonder how the hell it became 5am so quickly!
Twilight Princess.
I'm not that much into the gothic designs and the slightly edgy, or any of the wolf stuff, but the storytelling and the presentation felt like an actual epic. Lots of scenes like the first horseback field chase, the chariot defense, the bridge horseback fight, are so infuriating to actually play (especially the first time each), but they're all so cinematic and fast while taking a big leap forward in the story, you get stakes, satisfaction, and awe, as you realize after the fact what just changed. And then the compilation of each combat types for the final boss for the final cherry on the cake, now that you can actually play it better, you're right there in the movie for its climax.
And the boss fights like the fire temple and the argorok are very simple but really cool.
It's basically Ocarina, and Ocarina was great, but everything in TP is enhanced, you take every aspect of it and you improve everything. Except Ocarina goes harder on the fairytale feel, while TP is a straight medieval epic.
In 2D, maybe Minish Cap, but LBW is to LttP what TP is to OoT, like, take a great classic and improve on every aspect of it.
BotW/TotK don't make the top for me because I'm more into the immediate story, and those two are the type to hit harder the more you think about various aspects of it, rather than while you're in it, it's more of a melancholic slow burn for me.
I played most of the games since OOT, but I think the ones I enjoyed the most would be Twilight Princess and Breath of The Wild. When TP came out I was in my teens, and I loved the vibe of it, and the sheer size of the environments. Breath of the Wild at the time was really as groundbreaking as OOT.
(I think if I was born ten years earlier, OOT would def be on the list too, but I only really got to play it after the later games)
I was 14 when Ocarina of Time came out and it was my favorite video game for a decade or more. Now, I rank it kind of middle of the pack. I don't think it holds up as well as the 2d games or most of the 3d games, but it was groundbreaking at the time.
My first game was The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening, as a 7 year old solving those puzzles was soo cool. Love that game even though there has been OOT, MM, BOTW and now TOTK
Ocarina was my introduction and has so much nostalgia associated with it that I'm not sure I can ever top it. BotW was my favorite experience since OoT, and now TotK might surpass BotW for me. Life is just so much different as an adult than it was as a 9 year old playing OoT with all of my cousins and friends... it's hard to compare the experiences objectively.
Ocarina was my introduction so it will always have a place in my heart but it has to be Wind Waker! Just, everything, the story, the aesthetic, the music, it's all so perfect and gives me a warm happy place feeling. I wish so badly that it was more loved in the community (it received a lot of hate at the time) and I wish we could have seen the cut content and how different the story would have been.
I'm in oldie, so my favorite would be a toss up between Link to the Past (SNES) or Link's Awakening (Game Boy). I go back and play LttP every few years, but Link's Awakening was my first. β€οΈ
Outside of TOTK, I really enjoyed playing Minish Cap. The story, I'm meh on, but the gameplay was a lot of fun! It's almost a tie between that and ALttP, but I actually haven't ever finished the later which means the former wins out, for me anyways.
Right now I'm still loving BOTW. Haven't yet tried out TOTK. Ocarina of Time will always have a special place in my heart since it introduced me to the Zelda series like many of us here. Something about the iconic opening piano notes being played as soon as you see the title screen just gives a sense of nostalgia
