With only 91 days left before launch, today we are releasing the 1st Beta of Plasma 6.

https://kde.org/announcements/megarelease/6/beta1/

This is the time when we call on all testers to download and install it, and stress-test all its features.

Neon Unstable Edition is already ready with the updates,

https://neon.kde.org/download

but other unstable repositories of other distros will soon be available too. Look out for openSUSE, Arch, Kubuntu, Fedora, and more.

On the one hand, eeeeeeee it’s plasma 6, gotta get the beta.

On the other hand, I can’t brick my Linux install otherwise I’m screwed (running fedora asahi, btrfs on 16k page size causes severe limitations when it comes to getting files out of a system)

Do not try this on your production computer unless it is on another partition or virtual machine.

[-] WeLoveCastingSpellz@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 11 months ago

You should probs not flash it on your main machine

@Kidplayer_666 @WeLoveCastingSpellz Create a btrfs snapshot of your current install. You can just revert if something breaks. Or doesn't this work on Asahi yet?

[-] Kidplayer_666@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago

No idea to be completely honest. Gotta read the goddamn manual…

What feature are you waiting for?

I wonder if I can get my hands on this beta on NixOS. Anybody know of a flake or overlay?

Edit: I found a flake! Testing it now.

[-] theHamsta@mastodon.social 0 points 11 months ago

@baduhai @kde I can see a flake listed here among options for other distributions

Can I just enable the KDE-unstable repo in arch and test?

EDIT: Yes, just follow the wiki and reboot!

HDR (for games) here we gooo

Edit 2: Ok, gotta wait a bit more for the great work of Zamundaaa to be merged. Can't wait!

[-] Blackmist@feddit.uk 2 points 11 months ago

Let's hope the HDR is better than Windows the last time I tried it.

[-] Perroboc@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

Not just yet! For now only the desktop has HDR gamma and color settings, don’t expect more than that until more patches arrive.

And I understand that, at least in this first release, the objective is to have gaming hdr, not movies nor images…

[-] Oha@lemmy.ohaa.xyz 1 points 11 months ago

dont seem to get the new build. did you do anything exept adding the repo in pacman.conf

[-] Perroboc@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Make sure you follow the wiki: you need to put the repo at the top of the list!
