Found in DS9 s2e12 "The Alternate" and it's totally not an air freshener from the 90's.

The list of subreddits I really miss is actually pretty short, but one of them for sure is ThatsABooklight. Not the most active sub, but you could lose most of a weekend scrolling through all the weird stuff that got dressed up as a movie prop.

I loved dumb small subs. It's really a shame they can't really exist on Lemmy, at least not yet. I miss MisleadingPuddles

Why not just browse them while not logged in and with adblock?

On mobile you have to remind it that you don’t want to use the fucking app, and also that you don’t want to fucking log in with your Google account, and yes really I don’t want to use the fucking app, and no I don’t want you to use cookies, and no I don’t care if the app experience is better and also no, thank you, I don’t want to log in

I’m not sure about android, but Sink It for Reddit on iOS deals with getting rid of all the annoying shit for you.

[-] LOGAN@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Thanks for tipping me off to this! Tried it for a couple minutes and deleted the Reddit app.

[-] cynar@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

Replace "www" with "old", it takes you to the old version, that they haven't bothered updating to mess with you.

I still minimise my time on Reddit however, out of principle.

[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Oh yeah, on mobile I totally get it.

[-] OurTragicUniverse@kbin.social 2 points 10 months ago

Old.reddit still exists

[-] grue@lemmy.world 20 points 10 months ago

Because it's the principle of the thing!

I recall this being a favorite:

[-] Deebster@programming.dev 17 points 10 months ago

I'd definitely subscribe if you were to create that community here.

It's to cover the stink of Kai Winn. Even venting the room into the cold vacuum of space can't sweep out every stray "my child" that gets stuck to surfaces.

Seems like something you’d use to ensure the prophets didn’t encounter any unpleasant odors.

Renuzit isn’t quite right but is close

Those tall cylinders look like salt and pepper shakers.

I also know that they have used real life fruits and veggies that look super weird as stand-ins for alien fruits and vegetables.

This combines my last 2 posts! Durian fruit. One of the nastiest smelling things ever.

So much suffering.

[-] Infynis@midwest.social 25 points 10 months ago

I believe that's actually a Kiwano, also referred to as the Horned Melon, or the African Horned Cucumber. Durians are huge, and a different color. You see these a lot in Star Trek. Sometimes they're spray painted a crazy colour.

Also, leola root is just spray painted ginger, I'm pretty sure

[-] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 16 points 10 months ago

You're right. My bad, it's the other spikey weird fruit.

[-] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 11 points 10 months ago

I think I've also seen jackfruit used. They certainly look like they could be some sort of Klingon food. Or weapon.

[-] cybervseas@lemmy.world 11 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Sometimes they paint the fruit too 🙂

In Agents of SHIELD, they used car roof boxes as stasis pods, the only thing they changed was to add a small window in the lid.

The Expanse did the exact same thing

[-] negativenull@lemm.ee 9 points 10 months ago

The gold things with the grey lids to the left are totally shampoo bottles as well.

[-] Zoboomafoo@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

What do you mean, from the 90s?

[-] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 12 points 10 months ago

An antique from the 2290's.

[-] originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com 8 points 10 months ago

[-] marcos@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago
