Rant on crunchyroll (programming.dev)

How tf is it possible that there is no quality selector on tv app but there is one on pc and mobile. Why is it that on tv crunchyroll buffers so much ( and i checked my internet connection was fine ). Why tf there is still so many region locked content. I want to watch legend of galactic Heroes and not play games wondering which vpn if any will work if its still even on crunchyroll( it was ).
Also why cant i download episodes to watch offline on tv.

Thats my rant. Thank you all for listening. Have a good day.

This is the way. Honestly, CR is such a horrible fucking service and app. They don't pay their translators at all, basically, and apparently they've even paid their staff late, which...says a lot in this economy. I dropped my sub as soon as I found that my anime consumption was falling off (and even this season, I'm only watching a couple of shows).

That's why I use GOG instead of Steams DRM crap

My main gripe with Crunchyroll is that on long running shows like Gintama or Attack on Titans they don’t have the first season so you are forced to sail the high seas if you want to watch the show.

One piece was not available in my country for years. Little choice to pay fuck load of money for dvds or to pirate it.

Yea i wanna support anime and animation but crunchyroll keeps logging me out on the desktop version. No idea why. It makes me kinda wanna sail again honestly but there are some parts of the experience like just having all shows in one place (for the most part) that are nice.

Nyaaaaaa! You want to sail again? 😉

Classic Crunchyroll shitshow.

I think there is some sort of memory leak for the fire tv stick one anyway. If you load another app after every episode it should cut down on the issue if its what I think it is. So I will watch an episode then watch like an epic npc man or some other 2 or 3 min youtube skit type of thing and then go back and watch another episode and back to youtube and whatnot. Yeah its dumb and I hope they fix it but that whats work for me.

They've just gotten the mobile app past Funimation standards, so the TV app is probably going to take a while to upgrade, which sucks. Missing out on a lot of users

I'm glad that anime are still distributed using physical media, these DRM contents are really getting me.

[-] RightHandOfIkaros@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

Yeah, honestly the apps suck. Some shows are not available on Mobile or the TV app, but are available in the Xbox app.

Cant download probably in an effort to prevent you from getting a free 1 week trial and downloading all the shows for free.

Ohhh i wonder if its beacuse they are using xbox region instead of geolocating based on ip like in browser or on mobile. Somone once told me that changing region on xbox is ridicolously easy.

Because Crunchyroll has a basically monopoly position and has no real need to improve their core business. Instead they expand on other things like games

As a side note question, I just realized it's been a while since I looked through all the streaming options for Anime. I'm happy with CR at the moment but are there others I should consider? I like to reevaluate any subscriptions I have every year.

[-] TadeuszBonawentura@kbin.social 2 points 11 months ago

Nah, after the merger with Funimation, they looks like monopoly in anime streaming. Aside of Netflix there is really no much choice. I could remember only RetroCrush, but they are in now way the competitors to Crunchyroll.

[-] Lordran_Hollow@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

There's also HiDive (in the US), they don't have nearly as big of a catalog as CR, but they do have some pretty big exclusives that are only on their platform.

[-] ReluctantZen@feddit.nl 1 points 11 months ago

When you watch anime, you can't get around CR anymore. They have exclusive licenses for the vast majority of new anime There's HIDIVE, but you'd still need CR alongside it to actually keep up with the good stuff.
