Fun fact, the whole "light meat, dark meat" distinction came about because people were too timid to say breast or thigh in public.

I guess you could say they were...

...chicken.

[-] STRIKINGdebate2@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago

We don't have that in my country. Aren't both of them the same colour?

White meat is "fast twitch" muscle and is used for short powerful bursts of activity, like the breast muscles, which are used for flapping the wings

Dark meat is "slow twitch" muscle and is used for longer duration activities like walking, hence the legs and thighs are dark meat.

Dark meat contains more fat and can be cooked longer without becoming dry. White meat becomes dry and tough very quickly if overcooked.

This only really applies to birds, mammals are made of red meat, which is like a combination of both fast and slow twitch and can do both sort and long duration activities

Dark meat is basically meat that's closer to the bone. Compare to white meat, which is basically just the breast.

I prefer the dark meat, it seems to be more flavourful. I know a lot of people want nothing to do with blood and bones, and they prefer white meat because of that

A very common question in dating culture. But this is also a good reminder how common and acceptable it is to dehumanize women by reducing them to only to the parts you care about.

And for the last time, we don't serve chicken ass!

[-] RamSwamson@lemmy.sdf.org 15 points 1 year ago

It’s a good thing we’re talking chicken titties and not women titties then.

[-] FoundTheVegan@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Yes, but the reason the joke here works is because of the setup makes you think it's this very common dating question.

[-] RamSwamson@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 1 year ago

I think the joke works because people have been pushed for years to be ashamed of pointing out certain anatomical parts out of fear of being accused of such things that you mentioned, making it an all around taboo topic. A breast is a breast and a thigh is a thigh, regardless of sex. There’s no shame in admiring such features if they’re pleasing to the eye (or in the case of the post, taste), we are visual animals after all and the human body is a biological marvel that can cause awe. And no, I don’t think it’s a common question. Perhaps amongst the socially inept, but it’s always been rude and shallow to objectify people based off their physical features. Dehumanizing? Depends on the context. Everyone has preferences, whether you verbalize it or not. In this case, you are being asked for your preference and to verbalize it. I don’t understand what part of that is dehumanizing, we’re not reducing anything here, just pointing out a preference. To say there’s not a part of a body that makes you go 👀 on occasion would be insincere, as something as simple as ordering chicken proves.

"I find the most erotic part of a woman is the ~~boobies~~ giblets"

[-] Venat0r@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Where/Since when do KFC ask what bits you want?

[-] cucumberbob@programming.dev 5 points 1 year ago

They dont. You can ask them though, at least in my country (UK)

You’d be lucky to get breast though. IIRC from the time I worked there, 2/14 pieces are breast per chicken, and if people specify, they usually want breast, so there aren’t many left.

Personally, I'm a fan of the stuffing
