No “vegetarian” animal will refuse some protein if it gets the opportunity, cows and horses love bird’s nests from time to time. Hippos actually eat a lot of meat, sometimes more than they can digest.

As I learned from my biologist colleague, there is no such thing as an obligate herbivore. That cute little bunny would literally eat your face off if it came across your corpse.

As has been noted throughout recorded history, nature is fucking metal.

Especially if said bunny is the dreaded rabbit of Caerbannog.

With sharp, pointy teeth!

I saw some squirrels eating another squirrel once.

Mosquitos have never been so mortified.

[-] oo1@kbin.social 10 points 2 years ago

humans too.
i think if you attribute car killings to humans they beat mosquitos by a decent margin.

[-] ozymandias117@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago

Maybe? Cars in the US kill like 40,000 people a year; mosquitoes kill like 725,000 people a year

Yeah but 1.35 million die globally from car crashes, far more than mosquitoes kill.

[-] ozymandias117@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Interesting. That was more than I expected when looking at like China/India/US

That looks like the official number, though. I thought mosquito deaths were being underestimated

[-] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

Well we have gotten the number down significantly over the last century or so

[-] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Yeah, but mosquitoes have a much bigger head start, and we've significantly reduced mosquito related deaths in the last century. Over the last 250,000 years even cars don't come close yet.

I too hate you but don't want to eat you. I'm also fat.

Am I a hippo?

[-] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 22 points 2 years ago

Are you hungry? Like, hungry hungry?

[-] rifugee@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago

I'm just high enough for this to be absolutely fucking hilarious! Thanks, for this!

[-] Omgarm@lemmy.world 15 points 2 years ago

They're pure hatred consensed in a chubby river horse.

[-] Everythingispenguins@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Just imagine how angry they would be if they were tiny.

[-] beebarfbadger@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

The same. They would be the same angry but the angry per kilogram would be much higher, rendering them almost as angry per kilogram as a chihuahua.

[-] Everythingispenguins@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

I don't know, I have this theory where when the smaller container leaders to an increases in anger at a greater rate then the decrease in size. The angry bounces around more because of the smaller volume. This leads for the angry to increase because of the increased pressure in the container. I think this is part of Robert Boyle's foundational work.
