A US Navy guided-missile destroyer spent four days last month without working toilets, galley services and air conditioning in the blistering heat of the South China Sea after the warship lost power.

The incident was due to an engineering failure aboard the warship, the US 7th Fleet said in a statement to CNN, another setback as concerns mount over the heavy strain on the US Navy due to the Iran war and global commitments.

The USS Benfold, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, was on routine operations in the Indo-Pacific on July 24 when an “engineering casualty involving its generators” occurred, Navy Cmdr. Matthew Comer, spokesperson for the 7th Fleet, said.

This has been a long time coming for the navy. The higher brass of the navy are the most management brained leaders out of the military branches.

A while ago they arbitrarily decided that operation tempo was the most important metric when deciding on promotions. So now every single admiral only cares about maxing out deployment schedules to the detriment of things like training, safety, maintenance, and quality of life for its service members.

It's no coincidence that the navy is having a hard time recruiting and reenlisting when they are so abusive to their sailors, all so the brass can keep up the operational tempo they set upon themselves.

The whole higher command of the navy needs to be re-worked and brought down to earth for a reality check. This is what happens when you keep the weird ass traditions that try and completely isolate officers from the enlisted.

Tbh prob a good thing they fucked up the military so hard considering what they've been using it for lately.

Machines are not like stocks. You can’t just short them and expect to “profit” somehow.

Remember how everyone was laughing at Russia’s military when their much-vaunted equipment turned out to be poorly maintained garbage? Our Glorious Leader is doing the same thing to our navy.

I have a family member who works logistics for the DoD. He's done this job for years around the globe, including Afghanistan without complaint. I keep getting Signal messages complaining about how bad things are, what a cluster fuck it is and how everyone, including the brass, are at their wits end.

Okay, I admit it, I am tired of winning.

Are we Great Again yet?
