Yeah, that's why I don't use Google Search anymore, at all. I use SearXNG a meta search engine, NoAI DuckDuckGo, or StartPage as no thank you to any summaries! I can read perfectly fine myself, clankers!

This is one of my largest concerns regarding AI. Sure it can be a useful tool at times, but if it keeps summarizing websites, and keep just feeding information it takes from them, how long until the actual websites start dying off? And then what is it going to base its information on? The internet will become a wasteland of AI regurgitated hallucination.

Yeah I think that's the point. Just to make sure. It already is majority bot traffic. These tech billionaires don't care what we think or know. They're destroying the books. They control the context and manufacture the consent.

Went with my spouse to their neurology appointment last week and the person presenting themselves as a doctor started googling for things while still in the room, then showed us the Ai overview he was reading from about one of the conditions we already know my spouse doesn't have.

We're seeing a different neurologist next week...

Yes, I am aware how often doctors just google whatever the symptoms are, but I would hope the doctor is a bit more picky about their results. I may still search error codes, but I know what I'm looking for and don't trust "Ai overviews" for anything.

I can tell you're not in the US because it apparently took you less than a year to see a different neurologist.

[-] EggInDisguise 2 points 2 days ago

I wish I wasn't in the US.

As long as it's in the same hospital, we can actually see a different specialist fairly quickly. We only managed to get seen in 2 weeks because of a canceled appointment, otherwise it would be more like 4-8 months. We had to wait 6 months for the first appointment.

Well, best wishes for your spouse and you.

Google gonna be real mad once website figure out how to prevent scraping or when websites shutdown due to low traffic. Either way Googles dug a pit and is gonna be hella angry when they have to lie in it.

I understand the appeal, given how many websites are polluted with meaningless filler SEO text bullshit, making it a greater effort for getting the piece of info one was looking for, while having to combat annoying pop-ups, overlays, and cookie menus.

[-] RockBottom@feddit.org 6 points 2 days ago

So Google forced them to become worse way back.

Class action against Google on behalf of all websites claiming they are literally stealing their entire website and recreating a filtered version of multiple sites on the fly on their front page. This has to be illegal.

I don't like it, but Google uses it to inflate their numbers, which helps the AI bubble grow, which is now the only way to really get through this.

Infact, I let my PC google random things, just for Google to summarize.

I just left this profit lying around, who's is it?

[-] LastYearsIrritant@sopuli.xyz 1 points 3 days ago

Change your default search engine to this and get rid of all the Google crap.

you could also just use StartPage or searxng and not support googles continued privacy invasive practices

The comics from “This eCommerce Life” are fantastic.

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.
