Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?

Gedaliyah

What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?

Removed/Locked Posts

Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).

Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).

Deleted/Locked for being a 'Substack Blog'. However there are no rules against Substack blogs and Erin In The Morning is on MBFC.

Deleted for being a 'self post'. It is not, I do not run Transvitae or have any affiliation to it.

Deleted for being 'Substack blog. Please repost this story from a journalistic source. It's an important story '. Erin In The Morning is one of the leading journalistic sources for breaking trans news and investigations written by a trans journalist, who is also the wife of a trans member of the Montana House of Representatives.

Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.-

It is unfair because these were valid articles that were removed for reasons not within the rules or outright fabrications. It silences awareness of systemic discrimination and violence against a minority group. Marginalising issues trans peoples are facing in an ever increasingly transphobic world because they do not come from large scale news corporations who would rather run articles against us.

It's a known problem unfortunately.

The rules themselves have a degree of usefulness, but they get applied like this way too often as a thinly veiled laziness as the best possible interpretation of intent.

It's PTB for sure

There is no rule against substack in news, and in politics the claim of a self post was wrong.

[-] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 days ago

There was a rule about it. Rule 6 iirc. I checked before I commented. That may have changed, I noticed the mod from there had taken notice and undone the removals. I dunno, I was responding via an app, so maybe it screwed things up?

But I did check lol.

Mod is a PTB. Erin is legit. Sorry you don’t like our existence. We’re just trying to live. Also, mod can go fuck themselves.

Erin is the best

Lemmy.World has an abyssmal admin team that believes more rules and automation solve everything.

[-] little_cow@lemmy.world 14 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

i am sorry and have restored the posts i do not see this "substack" rule and the news is important according to me.

i removed the politics post because there is someone who often posts the content from a website that match the username to bring people to their site and i thought your name was for the website posted.

I'm curious about the news community rules at this point- JonsJava said that a post will be removed even if it doesn't break the rules if there's enough user reports on it. Why not just update the rules to not allow substack or popculture or whatever is actually against the rules instead of making users play a guessing game of what will be unpopular that day?

[-] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 13 points 6 days ago

said that a post will be removed even if it doesn't break the rules if there's enough user reports on it

Jfc that's such a backwards thing to do. They're just flat admitting all it takes is reporting for any reason and you can have a post taken down

It was reported numerous times for being off topic.

Pop culture really needs it’s own community. I think it deserves to be here, but in a place people want it.

I try to let the community help decide what belongs. The more diverse the reports, the more likely it doesn’t belong. That’s why we have the “… at moderators discretion” in the rule.

They let "at moderator's discretion" do a lot of the work in that community. It makes it very frustrating to participate as a user when the rules are following the community's whims of the day.

[-] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 4 points 6 days ago

I'm all for a community deciding direction, but using reports for that is wild, as is "at the moderators discretion".

I do wish there were better options than a poll and a meta thread, but even that is better than just going off reports. Or whatever a mod thinks in that moment.

[-] velma@sh.itjust.works 8 points 6 days ago

JonsJava does a lot of whatever he thinks in that moment when it comes to moderating.

He reported me for vote manipulation for a single downvote on a comment.

[-] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 6 days ago

Weird, usually they just ban people for reporting too much in their words.

Also hate how they just delete instead of lock

[-] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

At the very least it should be using a threshold based on the number of comments and upvotes. I was in one of those threads when it was deleted and it was very active. Feels shady af when an active thread like that just suddenly disappears (because how this platform handles deleted threads also sucks, it just disappears).

[-] punkisundead@slrpnk.net 13 points 6 days ago

PTB that gatekeeps what and what not actually is "news".

[-] frongt@lemmy.zip 5 points 6 days ago

If you didn't know, substack is a blog platform that not only hosts Nazi blogs, but promotes them: https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2025/07/substacks-nazi-problem-wont-go-away-after-push-notification-apology/

So regardless of what happened here, you should avoid substack to begin with.

seems like it simply isn't discriminating against political opinions

[-] harrys_balzac@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 6 days ago

Try reading some of the articles linked here.

There's a difference between "isn't discriminating against" and "actively promoting so they can make more money."

This attitude of all voices are equal is how we end up with authoritarian regimes that promote racism, misogyny, ethnic cleansing, homophobia, transphobia, and other ills that just about everyone with any empathy knows are wrong.

Tolerance is a social contract. Those that hold these intolerant principles have broken the contract and threaten all of human society and are owed no protection or quarter.

Expecto Transphobia.

Made 2 posts 4 the demagoguery: c/progpol & c/🏳️‍🌈🦈.
We’ll replicate what occurs in the next24hrs.

[-] alapakala@quokk.au 1 points 6 days ago

@trahr@sh.itjust.works upd8s:
While I wait for my admin to fix our fed issues, @cyan_mess@lemmy.blahaj.zone has informed me that article is plagiarized. I will be editing both.
Secondly, I’ll ask @Ada@piefed.blahaj.zone & @squirrel@lemmy.blahaj.zone to sidebar a blurb about banned sources like transvitae, transphobic journos, etc..

[-] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 1 points 5 days ago

Can we not just rename that instance to lemmy.murica? Them everything about it makes sense at least.

[-] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 2 points 5 days ago

I mean, I guess mistaking America for the World is also the most murican thing imaginable.

Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1857 readers
207 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.
