A strongly worded letter! Whatever will they do?

[-] hoppeduponcoffee@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 days ago

Well if Denmark doesn’t fight back, then the Europeans can’t make fun of us for doing nothing about our crisis.

[-] normalentrance@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 days ago

Can't they just seize the equipment and prosecute the individuals responsible?

Enforce your laws or lose your country. If a US company can establish a foothold it will be used as the justification to get boots on the ground for national security reasons. Look at the US history, it is what we do. We have done it all over the world and we are coming for you Greenlanders.

Thats the thing I don’t understand, even if you were considering a permit, they are still there illegally. Make them wait offshore until a decision is made. Bonkers level of stupidity.

start rolling out the fines. then start jailing noncompliant actors.

[-] kmartburrito@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

This is what I'm struggling with also. Just don't allow them in.

[-] BuckFutter@timeyak.com 1 points 1 week ago

Yah agreed, an article I read said that there were wasn’t much population in that area so that may by why, as in there isn’t anyone to physically remove them…but you would think a response of some sort from the government would have happened. Just wild stuff. Appeasement rarely works.

[-] Ironfist79@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Shoot first, ask questions later.

[-] gibmiser@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

There are undoubtedly unethical Greenlanders who are willing to sell out to America for a profit. Some are just dumb. Either way they are almost certainly getting some amount of help from a few locals.

[-] BuckFutter@timeyak.com 3 points 1 week ago

Oh so true. If our last election is anything to go by there is a plethora of dumb people in any given population.

[-] AA5B@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

It’s got to be a tough choice: do they need to fear military “response” to this game of chicken?

It’s easy for us to say they should just enforce their laws but is this just a provocation? And excuse? It’s also easy for us to say any military action would be widely condemned, including from half the US, but we wouldn’t be the ones getting invaded

He’s a rapist. This is what rapists do.

[-] I_Jedi@lemmy.today 1 points 1 week ago

"Greenland should've hit harder."

[-] dan1101@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago

Arrest anyone illegally drilling. Either do that or trump will take over.

[-] shartgargle@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

Danish prisons are nicer than the living conditions of a significant proportion of Americans.

[-] warm@kbin.earth 14 points 1 week ago

Just fucking remove them by force Greenland.

[-] hoppeduponcoffee@lemmy.zip 0 points 6 days ago

Just like we’re removing them from our US regime with force?

[-] SpaceTimeInterval@lemmy.cafe 4 points 1 week ago

The EU should sanction the US over this.

[-] TryingToBeGood@reddthat.com 4 points 1 week ago

Go out and take them into custody.

[-] fira@lemmy.today 3 points 1 week ago

Offshore drilling can be dangerous. Accidents happen all the time

[-] alecbowles@feddit.uk 3 points 1 week ago

What about a strong wind instead of a strong warning. By wind I mean a strong fart. They may be more lucky
