It's worth pointing out that there were other polls done in the same time span and the polls cited here were the most negative ones. Based on Nate Silver's polling tracker, the last ten polls showed approval ratings in the 32-44% range, and the three polls cited are the lowest three in that bunch.

It's simpler than that. To them, "communists" and "socialists" are the same, and it's anyone that doesn't think businesses should be able to do anything they want, and any person non-conforming to their personal view of "normal" isn't even human. While most will not, some will even admit both of those publicly.

Well something happened to cause his approval rating to go up.
Nothing has actually moved his approval more than a few percentage points up or down since mid-2016. He had slight bumps in approval at the start of both terms in office, but otherwise his approval hovered at or close to the low 40s.
