That looks like some sort of ampoule.

I suspect it is medicine.

What kind of medicine would you put inside a glass container that has to be shattered to use?

[-] IWW4@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 weeks ago

It doesn’t get shattered. You use a file to work that thin point, break off the top and extract the medicine.

Common Medicines in Ampules

  • Pain relievers: Morphine and tramadol.
  • Emergency and heart drugs: Epinephrine or atropine.
  • Diuretics: Furosemide.
  • Nausea medications: Promethazine.
  • Respiratory treatments: Liquid albuterol for nebulizers.
  • Diluents and sterile liquids:  Sterile water or saline for mixing

Other folks where saying it might be iodine as desinfectant

[-] accideath@feddit.org 3 points 2 weeks ago

Could be bromine. It’s a reddish brown liquid that’s highly corrosive and toxic and is typically fused into ampules for storage, as it gives off toxic fumes.

Be careful to not break it or get it too warm until you know for sure what it is.

I dont think its bromide it doed not really have any gass ontop of the liquid and its also not dark enough ill def be carefull with it tho thanks for the advice

That really looks like an old school glass stinkbomb. Except the liquid isn’t yellow.

Edit: added image

[-] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

It’s not yellow probably because of how old it is and potentially the sun discoloring it. I’m betting someone dropped it or hoped someone would step on it and it would be a funny beach gag. That’s my guess anyway.

What you posted is exactly what popped in my mind when I saw it as well.

I decided to have a trial run with one of those in the sixth grade cafeteria. It certainly did the job, and I had some time with the vice principal.

Itch powder also works.

Yes! I used to buy all this shit at a magic store in the Burlington Center, a NJ mall. Even got the cigar charges and put one in my brothers cigarette. Hilarious, but it led to a pretty epic beating.

[-] 2piradians@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

The exploding cigarette is hilarious! These days adult me thinks damn, that's dangerous, but the kid is still in there laughing.

Was your brother ok, and did you get to watch it blow up?!

[-] JoeTheSane@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

He was a little shook up, but fine. I did get to see it, and it was beautiful!

[-] BreadOven@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Any number of chemicals or medicines. Hard to say if it's always been brown or the colour is due to degradation. Firefighters would probably be the best idea. Or like a hazardous chemical waste.

Just be careful not to break it open.

[-] wezzzy 3 points 2 weeks ago

It is in chemical waste now

[-] BreadOven@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Nice. Good to hear!
