And slower. Great for plumbing, not so much a 3" aluminum post with 1/4" walls

But hey, I might be wrong. 30yrs in the trades, but I've never tried cutting down an aluminum post with a pipe cutter

Also if the method varies from person to person, or one person uses a unique method, it's easier to get multiple vandalism charges to stick

[-] modus@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Hey, totally unrelated, but how does one cut copper pipes mounted close to the wall?

[-] CascadianGiraffe@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

There's a tool that attaches to your drill or impact driver. Kinda expensive, but when you NEED it, it's worth every penny.

"Oscillating cutters" are good for close cuts in tight spaces.

[-] modus@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Cool. I saw those at the store when buying drill bits. Didn't know what they were. Thanks.

These things are a pain to use. Especially the cheap ones require more force than you'd expect and occasionally get stuck. They make a good clean cut but it's so slow and awkward that if you were wanting to do vandalism they're impractical relative to a reciprocating saw or better yet portable band saw.

I also wouldn't underestimate the power of spray paint, even though it's simple to fix it's still expensive when the contract specifics all the maintenance must be done by flock themselves.

[-] CubitOom@infosec.pub 9 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Would a straight cut be easier to add a union joint to and thus make the cost of repair slightly lower?

I guess it would depend on priorities

[-] djdarren@piefed.social 16 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Nah, they wouldn't bother repairing the tube regardless of how it's cut. If they did and the repair broke, hitting someone, they'd have to take the liability. For a company with their funding, a length of ally tube and the cost to dig it into the ground is fuck all.

edit to add: but multiplied by hundreds of them being cut down, it's not not fuck all. and it's funny.

The people taking down flock cameras are heroes not criminals.

[-] cultist@feddit.dk 28 points 3 weeks ago

I think its the funny way of saying how its done without condoning it publicly.

[-] Blurntout@lemmy.ca 27 points 3 weeks ago

If you can’t taste the sarcasm in this video the tism is strong in you ❤️

[-] Signtist@bookwyr.me 9 points 3 weeks ago

The people taking them dawn are heroes and criminals. "Criminal" just means they're not aligned with the law, not that they're in some way immoral. In a country as corrupt as this, it's a title to be worn proudly.

Criminals ✋

Privacy enthusiasts ✅

[-] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 8 points 3 weeks ago

Ohh, I thought the headline meant members of organized crime were concerned about the increased surveillance, so they were making a concerted effort to reduce the network coverage

[-] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 weeks ago

Even smaller criminal orgs can seem heroic, momentarily, when acting against a larger, more pervasive and communal threat.☝🏼

[-] Kraiden@piefed.social 42 points 3 weeks ago

And all the onlookers suddenly become Skyrim guards... must have been the wind

[-] theblurstoftimes@leminal.space 35 points 3 weeks ago

Next thing you know we’ll have a criminal president!

[-] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 33 points 3 weeks ago

I thought the criminals are the ones putting those things up there?

Weird.

[-] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 24 points 3 weeks ago

*Heroes not Criminals

[-] greenbit@lemmy.zip 18 points 3 weeks ago

So criminals are doing it the same way as non-criminals?

[-] SourDragon@lemmy.world 17 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Aren't the criminals the one's putting up the cameras? The heroes are actually the ones taking them down.

[-] DjangoFett@lemmy.zip 16 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

He was the punkest motherfucker I ever did see

Aw, hell, he's even more punk than me!

Edit: kerning

[-] RabbitBBQ@lemmy.world 16 points 3 weeks ago

Flock cameras are probably less than 1% of the total surveillance state (that needs to be dismantled)

Start with the low hanging fruits.

How heros are taking down private spy network cameras that cops use to stalk people

[-] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 weeks ago

I thought flock wasn't taking down the cameras?

[-] CubitOom@infosec.pub 16 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Actually, it would be extremely lucrative if flock was the people cutting down the cameras, wiping them, and selling them back to the user/municipality at the replacement cost stated in the contract, and using Antifa as a cover.

[-] Leviathan@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

Revolutionary hero**

Not a criminal.

A grinder will cut through a steel pole like that so much faster than a recip.

[-] 0tt3rk3w1@infosec.pub 7 points 3 weeks ago

He literally points out that the recip is quieter, and he's got it chopped in seconds, so the fractions of such that a grinder'd offer are negligible. If anything, I'm curious what the comparative battery-life is between a reciprocating saw & angle grinder, but that's even more pedantic, honestly. 🤷🏼‍♂️

[-] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

A carbide saw blade is even faster. Just get a battery powered saw meant for them. They spin at a different speed from the wood cutting saws.

I can’t take this person seriously. So thirsty for attention.

[-] Theoriginalthon@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Just put a bag or bucket over it, won't stop the RF gathering stuff, but cheap and quick

[-] SalmiakDragon@feddit.nu 2 points 3 weeks ago

And makes it easier for others to finish the job
