That's kinda the joke.

What am I missing about the comments here? It's a satirical cartoon, so it's not meant to be taken as these labels are what the author would apply to each group.

I read it as highlighting the hypocrisy of how Ukraine fighting Russia is self defence but Palestine fighting Israel is seen as terrorism.

Is this a controversial take?

They didn't see the "TV" in the pic lol

You've got it. Ukraine is a little less black and white than Israel Palestine, so you'll see some comments that are anti Ukraine.

History is full of groups that were called terrorists before they were called governments. Whoever decides what is an act of war and what is an act of terrorism decides the rules of the game

Nelson Mandela was deemed a terrorist and British intelligence provided information to the apartheid regime to murder ANC activists in Europe in the 1960s and 1970s.

Funny that someone felt the need to put flags on this

the illustration is a bit of an oversimplification, but I think a redeemable takeaway is that the rhetoric changes depending on which side (western) capital is supporting.

Ukraine would be a drone

[-] hobata@lemmy.ml 9 points 5 days ago

Can't disagree on that, that Ukrops are terrorist.

I mean, the funny thing is that the UON-B (The Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists โ€“ Bandera faction) has unequivocally been operating as a stateless paramilitary seeking political reform through violence. Not unlike the Houthi Rebel movement or Hamas, after the IDF killed all their civilian bureaucrats and political functionaries.

But because the term carries "brown person acting badly" connotation, people reflectively reject the idea that a white person can earn the title.

People do seem to get upset when you remind them about all the Christian terrorists that set fire (or similar) to abortion clinics.

[-] Fancy_Gecko@lemmy.ml 3 points 5 days ago

the opposite is pretty much true

How does this bullshit have upvotes?

What double standards?

When someone uses a rifle to kill people who were on their way to the voting booth for independence and reattachment and in retaliation you bring in a tank, you're doing self-defense.
When someone throws a rock at you because they're being oppressed by you as you're occupying their land and you bring in a tank, you're doing terrorism.

Nothing wrong with this picture.
Other than the other side needs text also.

Goaded (by the US) โ†” Self-defense
Resistance (against oppression) โ†” (State) Terrorism

That's only the most superficial level everyone should agree with on principle if they have eyes and ears.

Now let's see who/what is backing these groups, lol.
