That's an oddly specific thing to withhold funds from

[-] IrateAnteater@sh.itjust.works 84 points 2 weeks ago

It's not really surprising. Rape as a weapon of war seems to be common amongst both existing theocratic states and those trying to establish one.

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 37 points 2 weeks ago

As 40% of police beat their spouses, it's been the only budget cut departments are consistently willing to champion.

[-] SwifferWetjet@thelemmy.club 18 points 2 weeks ago

Hey, hey, HEY! That statistic from 20 years ago says that 40% SELF-REPORTED ABUSING their spouse! I am going to die on the hill of the difference between domestic abuse and domestic violence!

This is sarcasm, if not obvious

[-] Rusticus@lemmy.world 18 points 2 weeks ago

POTUS thinks rape is fake news.

[-] kreskin@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

Republicans hate women.

[-] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 59 points 2 weeks ago

That’s a mobster threat.

[-] tanisnikana@lemmy.world 38 points 2 weeks ago

Literal absolute monsters.

[-] aarch0x40@piefed.social 32 points 2 weeks ago

I'm surprised rape kit funding didn't get DOGE'd

[-] joyjoy@piefed.social 4 points 2 weeks ago

Completely agree, but not because "woke" but because most rape kits go unprocessed.

[-] Pollo_Jack@lemmy.world 30 points 2 weeks ago

Tow any federal vehicles, fine them, and if the fine is not paid within a week release them to parts shops. Tow and fine for what? Not having a stamp showing they have paid the state a stamp tax allowing them to be present.

[-] 800XL@lemmy.world 28 points 2 weeks ago

No shit? Lose police funding? We'll finally get those safe cities Republicans always talk about providing when they're elected. It just comes from the exact opposite of what they do.

[-] luciferofastora@feddit.org 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Police defunding alone isn't gonna make cities safe. Where state capacity fades, people take advantage. Be ready to replace them with a new, more resilient system so that the power vacuum is filled not by some people but by the people.

[-] joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone 25 points 2 weeks ago

The everyday use of threats to withhold justice and life saving things from people is not acceptable and should not be acceptable to anyone with half a mind in this country, the GOP needs to lose every single election they are up for for putting us through this absolute hell

[-] Bakkoda@lemmy.world 24 points 2 weeks ago

So defund the police?

🤡🤡🤡🤡

[-] kreskin@lemmy.world 23 points 2 weeks ago

We'll find a way to fund rape kits without them -- cops dont do a reliable job processing those anyway and the hospitals should do it. And reducing police funding is what we've wanted all along anyway. Lets do this.

[-] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 16 points 2 weeks ago

The rape kits are needed, but getting rid of some cops might actually help the crime rate.

[-] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

Republican Christians, the best devil worshippers ever.

[-] untorquer@quokk.au 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Waiting for the product of the manufacturing, "they chose to defund their police, it's a lawless city. We have to send in ICE for pubic safety and to uphold peace"

[-] trainsrkool@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 weeks ago
[-] SlugsOnToast@lemmus.org 9 points 2 weeks ago

What a reprehensible form of extortion. Every single thing about this administration and its supporters is fucking GROSS.

[-] badmancrooks@piefed.social 8 points 2 weeks ago

They don't look at them anyway, go for it.

[-] lemmylump@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

They don't use them, ACAB and a shitton of them are rapist.

[-] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Did I miss something but aren't city/county police funded by local taxes, and statues are state-funded?

[-] Timecircleline@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago

The article references a federal grant made to help support prosecution of rapists.

[-] green_goglin@thelemmy.club 6 points 2 weeks ago

This DOJ is utter bullshit and must be held to account after this administration ends.

[-] SwissArmyKazoo@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Good.

Fuck ICE and Fuck Cops (They were invented to hunt down escaped slaves.)

[-] Garbagio@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah but what'll we do without the $5 cities will spend on actually testing rape kits?

[-] Fedizen@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

What does "don't allow Immigration and Customs Enforcement enforcement " even mean?

[-] CubitOom@infosec.pub 4 points 2 weeks ago

Like going to the Automated Teller Machine machine

[-] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Where you enter you Personal Identification Number number

[-] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 3 points 2 weeks ago

Don't threaten me with a good time!

[-] SharkAttak@kbin.melroy.org 2 points 2 weeks ago

A single sheriff with a deputy, like the old times, would be more effective than an army of trigger happy clowns.

[-] DataCrime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 weeks ago

Forgive my ignorance… but how much does a box of sterile q-tips cost? This sounds like fear mongering at its finest 😌
