I'll take, "Things you can do but should never fucking do." for $500, Alex.

One small throwaway line about how scientists made sourdough with a yeast strain from him.

I know every single headline now is click bait but this didn't even say shit about who made the bread or how it turned out or anything whatsoever actually about scientists making bread with an ancient yeast.

I imagine the worst outcome would be if the bread was unbelievably delicious. They can’t exactly source more of it.

Mmmm extra-sour dough

Finally, some good news

[-] quick_snail@feddit.nl 2 points 2 days ago

This story is old and still disgusting

[-] Rhaedas@fedia.io 3 points 2 days ago

"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."

[-] LoonyLenny@lemdro.id 2 points 2 days ago

Served with his duck butter.

[-] Shortstack@reddthat.com 2 points 2 days ago

I can’t imagine an ancient yeast would taste much different than sourdough made from modern wheat, especially if you use the same grain the iceman had available back in his time like einkorn. You’d still end up with tangy sourdough

The point is obviously getting as close as possible to cannibalism, without actually being cannibalism.

[-] kikutwo@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

From between the toes?

[-] antsu@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 2 days ago

Fuck it, get me some good butter I'd eat the whole loaf.
