Fascist rag, owned by fascists promoting fascism.

I will make one correction here. "Decade" should be "decades"

Americans are an adversary, PostMedia should be owned by Canadians or broken up and sold bit by bit at a loss. How the fuck is our media controlled by facists.

Post media shouldn't be allowed in Canada. America is slowly eroding our government and freedoms.

If you read PostMedia, stop. I don’t read anything they publish. I only trust CBC News.

[-] Sunshine@piefed.ca 7 points 1 month ago

Why only CBC? One source of information is unhealthy.

[-] Rion@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 month ago

CTV and Global are right-leaning and privately owned. CBC is publicly funded and more centrist.

[-] Sunshine@piefed.ca 3 points 1 month ago

However there are other public broadcasters and independent trust worthy outlets.

I don’t trust independent outlets. Or I outright dislike them, like Rachel Gilmore or Juno News.

I’m not familiar with other public broadcasters other than the CBC.

Rachel Gilmore is not the same as Juno News….

I don’t trust independent outlets

That’s a very questionable stance indeed….

I know they’re different which is why I used “or” rather than “and”.

EDIT: Sorry, not trying to argue. Just clarifying what I was saying.

CHEK is employee owned and has an app for TVs. Decent news service but Victoria. Also there are some good investigative journalism shows on outlets like TVO (Ontario), just not as timely.

For international news, DW, France24, Al Jazeera, and other state media apps like the BBC all have their strengths. DW can be good for African news, for instance, but terrible on anything about israeli genocide. Al Jazeera can be great for perspective on the USA or Asian news but suspect about the Gulf States or the Levant.

As always, follow the money.

Al Jazeera???? No, no thank you.

I’ve heard of CHEK and have seen some of their videos on YouTube.

I always forget about TVO, which is odd given how much I watched it as a kid.

I like BBC and The Guardian.

Also, I’m pro-Jew. Not interested in so-called Palestine’s propaganda.

In my family and our other Jewish friends, zionists are seen as antisemitic and make us feel unsafe, especially when they equate jewishness with zionism. I am not jewish but I respect their arguments and very real anxieties.

I like the CBC for the most part, but I wish they pushed back a lot more instead of just simply copy pasting whatever some politician says.

Pushing back is investigative journalism or opinion pieces. Which are a vital parts of a healthy newsroom, of course.

But for the most part, reporting the news is supposed to be just copy pasting what politicians say.

if mark carney says "pipelines are good", it's the job of the news to report that mark carney said "pipelines are good".... thats not an endorsement of pipelines. It's just reporting the facts... it's not the job of the CBC to colour that news with their own opinion, even if its something you and i agree with. Thats how you end up with shit like fox news

No, that's not what journalism is. That's a talking platform. Journalism's main goal is to inform the public, not pass on talking points.

Journalism is when a politician says "we will wait for an international court to label the crimes in Palestine as genocide because that is precedent" when it really hasn't been a precedent and it's very easily searchable (like Canada recognizing the Uyghur genocide), basic journalism is pointing out that discrepancy. No investigation needed, no opinion, purely informative.

Otherwise, it's a megaphone outlet for talking heads.
