I guess the way to get this regulated is to use the glasses to record cops breaking the law.

[-] Senal@programming.dev 8 points 3 days ago

Sure, but they'd only regulate the recording of cops

"I just fucking LOVE paying luxury prices to help corporations data mine the universe"

God, I look so fucking cool right now.

The Cybertruck of face accessories.

What are these monstrosities

Edit: They are Snap Specs. The exec that greenlit these things should be publicly humiliated.

[-] Denalduh@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

That is the ceo in the picture. I'd say it's pretty humiliating!

[-] wingnut@lemmy.zip 1 points 21 hours ago

Dammit Genie it doesn't work without shame Dx

[-] Blibly@lemmy.world 60 points 4 days ago

Imma be real: the right thing to do is to punch anyone wearing these and smash them on the ground. Unless you want this to be the new normal...

[-] hardcoreufo@lemmy.world 29 points 4 days ago

I agree but would like my xr glasses with no camera to be safe from the punching. They are just a dumb display to watch movies and play games when I travel.

[-] foo@feddit.uk 5 points 3 days ago

This is also my concern. I have the XReal One Pro but without the camera attachment. Anyone who knows these glasses would be able to see that they don't have the camera. But, if everyone starts thinking all glasses that look like this are secretly filming, many of them are unlikely to know the difference between me watching Netflix and me spy-filming.

I have a pair of glasses that:

  • have built in dual 1080p displays
  • two low resolution (800x600 IIRC) IR cameras that are just barely enough for hand and finger tracking (no connected device has access to the camera feed, glasses have no viable onboard storage, recording is literally not possible)

if you punch me in the face on that presumption, you can bet your ass I will go to the fullest extent of the law to have you prosecuted AND you'll be paying for all the damages.

But please do keep punching people who've done nothing to you. That'll surely turn out well.

[-] TachyonTele_Esq@piefed.social 40 points 4 days ago

That's a nice plan.
Until you get punched in the face.

[-] phar@lemmy.world 24 points 4 days ago

Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face

Have you never gotten in a fight? They'll be long gone.

[-] mastertigurius@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago

So how many kids have you been filming on your magical video device so far?

Smart glasses are a real threat to women, unlike trans people.

[-] db2@lemmy.world 33 points 3 days ago

That looks exactly like the kind of person I thought would wear these.

[-] faerbit@sh.itjust.works 12 points 3 days ago

It's the CEO, so that doesn't really surprise

[-] db2@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

Why do so many of the tech bros look like drowned rats

[-] Barrymore@sh.itjust.works 55 points 4 days ago

I have rayban sunglasses from before the meta glasses trend, and some people think I'm recording them when I'm just wearing prescription glasses 😎😭

[-] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 64 points 4 days ago

The shitty thing is it's hard not to give the fuckers money.

Luxoticca owns most eyewear brands, optometrist offices, eyewear retailers, and even a ton of optical insurance providers. They control the frames, lenses, and more.

Oakley used to be independent, but they actually stopped lenscrafters from providing lenses for them and bullied their suppliers until Oakley's stock dropped enough to buy them out. They're the reason frames that should cost $15 cost $900.

They're one of the clearest examples of a monopoly in the world, but we just fucking let it continue.

Look at his ear. A person could wear this maybe 10 min before his ear hurts so bad he can’t any more.

Perv glasses

[-] deadymouse@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Heck, people create their own problems by allowing corporations to build and deploy these technologies, and then complain. lol.

[-] Rubanski@discuss.tchncs.de 25 points 3 days ago

Oftentimes those who complain have no control over the the allowed technologies. I still don't understand how meta glasses that are seemingly secretly filming people against their consent first are allowed in the first place

[-] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 3 points 3 days ago

What are we supposed to do to stop them?

[-] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 days ago
[-] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 7 points 3 days ago

Can't tell, so i assume you are.

[-] Sanguine@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 4 days ago
