I wonder if retardedly ignoring design flaws is just a way to maintain sanity in a dangerously insane world, like immigrants who vote for Trump ignore that he's genocidally racist because acknowledging the truth is immensely disruptive emotionally.

Sometimes while I'm exercising I watch out the window and always see so many of these giant trucks pass by, single passenger, clearly not used for any work. Along with all the other grey and black and white SUVs. Once in a while there will be a tan or silver car.

What the hell happened here, they took all the fun out of driving and replaced it with mad max macho bullshit

I was going to comment on your other post about how my car's rear view mirror is at eye level with me and causes a massive blind spot. Of course I just look around it, but humans are falliable creatures and all it takes is forgetting to look one time and BOOM someone's dead.

Why can't we design vehicles that minimize human mistakes? Really how hard is it to make a mirror with an adjustable height?

For some reason it seems a lot of people would rather get mad at someone pointing out a flawed design instead of the flawed design itself and it makes no sense.

I'm learning that our main problem as a species is we have an amazing ability to avoid acknowledging reality if doing so would makes us uncomfortable. In this case, I think many people would rather not acknowledge they may well be casually killed by a poorly designed transportation system that requires superhuman levels of awareness on the part of drivers.

Context: Posted a picture of my massive A-pillar blocking my view of the pedestrian intersection; one of the top voted comments was telling me to just look around it; another comment thought I wasn't first at the intersection. I started to defend my position and both instances started picking up spite downvotes.

Honestly, I thought it was reddit, but it turns out the world is full of stupid assholes. The only hope is nuclear annihilation.

What post are you talking about?

Edit: Oh, OP deleted it.

Yeah, listening to a micromobility group agree that a massive engineered blind spot was a skills issue is more than I could bear. I'm already looking for the End All of Existence button as it is.

acknowledging the truth is immensely disruptive emotionally.

Yeah that's a common problem for a lot of people. Cowardice and complete refusal to admit their own shortcomings. Most people would rather double down than admit they fucked up

[-] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works 1 points 14 hours ago

I'm assuming this is some clever backhanded insult because it has nothing to do with what I'm talking about.

[-] jtrek@startrek.website 2 points 14 hours ago

No, I was agreeing with you. People don't want to acknowledge the truth (ie: their car is too big to be safe, they voted for a dangerous felon). It feels bad emotionally. Most people resolve the cognitive dissonance between "I'm a good person" and stuff like "I'm probably going to kill a kid with my car" by lashing out or making up excuses.

Ohhhh, so these are drivers resolving their cognitive dissonance. I thought it was cyclists/pedestrians. Plenty of cyclists just see cycling as a hobby and commute via car. They kinda suck balls as far as alliance & kinship go.

It's a little sad that we need to actually say this, but:

Don't be an asshole or you will be permanently banned.

Respectful debate is totally OK, criticizing a product is fine, but being verbally abusive will not be tolerated.

Focus on discussing the idea, not attacking the person.
