[-] Smaile@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

My thoughts exactly, make love not war :DD

[-] strocker89@feddit.online 59 points 1 day ago

Fake outrage, Rockstar didn't make a change, one loser fan did this edit because he is racist.

[-] echodot@feddit.uk 1 points 8 hours ago

He's going to be really mad about the game itself.

[-] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 1 day ago

Nobody said they did? Racists are mad about there is many just search on X, Facebook or even parts of reddit and changed it themselves saying this is better and not "woke" nobody ever claimed rockstar changed did so where is the "fake" outrage.

[-] prole 3 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

Seeing a gamer chud call a game "woke" for simply having characters of color makes me fucking see red. And sadly it happens all of the time.

It's honestly embarrassing to be a gamer these days.

[-] naught101@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

Without knowing any of the context, I assumed "they" meant the game developers. It's definitely open to interpretation that way.

[-] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 day ago

Okay I guess not really though i dont think but apparently with your upvotes it can be it just literally says "fans" disliked it so much they decided to change it. Seems to me to be clearly centering these "fans" as the plural group acting. Apparently not though.

[-] runner_g@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago

ah, that explains why the color composition is so much worse. the girl on the left really pops while the one on the right fades into the background.

[-] Bigfishbest@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Is he racist, or just a blondophile? I find certain qualities in a woman attractive, if one of those qualities was curly hair, would I be racist towards east Asians who have straight hair? I mean, if the dude posted "this woman is ugly and unattractive cause she is dark skinned" then yeah, racist. But... "I'd prefer her as a blonde", is that racist?

[-] qarbone@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I'm going to assume, against reason, thwt this comment is not made in bad faith.

The racism is in the action and the intention. You can jork to whoever you like but going out of your way to replace depictions you don't like is weird. This isn't a case of some guy making a pin-up of a woman he finds attractive. It isn't a remix: the edit has the same clothes (what little there are) and the same tattoos. So the statement is "I want this same person but I want them white."

Even replacing the ethnicity with an entirely new character would be weird, but the direct ethnicity edit cannot be anything but offensive in intention.

The world of (Western) representation has been overwhelming White. Racism isn't just prejudice: it is prejudice that is empowered and entrenched by systems, both legal and cultural. The removal of a non-white character to instead endorse yet another white model (whose features are inline with the archetypal Aryan of White supremacist fascination, e.g., blonde, straight-haired and blue-eyed) is a minor salve to a system that is being stressed by a slow cultural push towards equal representation. And, yes, a sexy lady with dark skin for a video game can be representation but I don't have the will now to get into the "why."

[-] Honytawk@discuss.tchncs.de 44 points 1 day ago

Who is "they"?

One lonely racist with an image generator?

[-] sleepydragn1@lemmy.world 56 points 2 days ago

"A few weirdos on the Internet used Photoshop, so now we're ragebaiting it for engagement to make a few pennies on X."

[-] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 day ago

No racism is not okay and it was more than a few i still lurk on reddit and the "gamergate" crowd hate the original and claim the game has gone "woke" so there is actual racism to be confronted.

[-] MyBrainHurts@piefed.ca 59 points 2 days ago

Feels a bit of a weird take... One of the most liked, shared etc video game trailers of all time which is also the least white but because some percentage of people are goofs, gamers as a whole are evil?

It'd be like saying all the fediverse is tankie crazies because .ml exists.

I get we like our pitchforks and any attempt to villainize folks but this feels pretty thin.

[-] Malyca@lemmy.zip 3 points 19 hours ago

Awful lot of incels welcome in every gaming community.

[-] baguettefish@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 1 day ago

usually the crowd addressed as gamers in these things is the vocal racist and sexist and homophobic loud minority, the ones that still keep the spirit of gamergate going. obviously the text just mentions gamers, but sometimes you can be a bit charitable.

[-] M137@lemmy.today 6 points 1 day ago

People who don't game basically only see that part because they're the ones getting their knickers in a twist and having public outbursts over ridiculous shit all the time. I think many refrain from gaming just because of that.

I mean both look, how can i say this, extremely thirst trappy but the face is much better on the original. Also my brain is strange(and also its very hard to talk about this because it involves skin colour) so for me general european/north american white skin is kinda neutral but the edited picture has her at like finnish level whiteness which kinda can work as a plus point. But this is ignoring how fucking deranged this is.

[-] ZoteTheMighty@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

Both had good artists. The original evoqued feelings of thirst, as intended. The revision evoqued feelings of racism, as intended.

[-] Smaile@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

It is racist, but I like both tho :3

[-] nul9o9@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 day ago

The original post seems like pure bait to me.

[-] Wataba@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

After the Campaign Evolved shit that turned out to be a genuine ragehead and not bait, I really cant tell the difference anymore.

[-] KaChilde@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 day ago

I don’t know if people are reading this correctly.

Rockstar did not change the race of the cover-girl. It was the racist ‘fans’ who fed the image through AI and gave her the Michael Jackson experience.

A lot of people getting angry at a company that (in this very specific case) did nothing wrong.

[-] chrisbtoo@lemmy.ca 15 points 2 days ago

You see, it's actually about ethics in games journalism.

[-] Crozekiel@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 day ago

I don't know why anyone trusts anyone or anything that still posts on Twitter in 2026...

[-] Stormy@thelemmy.club 4 points 1 day ago

I don't know how to find a place where I don't have to be exposed to the shit they produce over there.

[-] Calfpupa@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 days ago

Hmmm looked around a bit online and I couldn't find this edited image or any comment about Rockstar changing the cover art from the left to the right. I'm wondering if this is even real, or am I missing a joke? If it is real it's silly but if it's not it's just fake outrage.

[-] RmDebArc_5@piefed.zip 2 points 1 day ago

The post says that fans made the change, likely meaning this is hard to find

[-] zarathustrad@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

So, in other words, possibly one person did this and now we all should be bigly mad about it?

It's a moral panic.

[-] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago

Look at gamergate forums or on x and they are thousands of people mad about rockstar going "woke" so no its not a "moral panic". Hate people in this thread pretending racism doesn't exist because their bubbles are successfully purged of it that's good but the racism is still there and say your low tech friend who games causally and uses x or facebook or reddit will see it.

Do you have any earthly idea how many of those "people" are bots now? Let yourself get worked-up by engagement-bait if you insist, but no-one-else is obligated to check-out places that are well-known for being places one goes to piss-off others or find something to get pissed-off about. Your "hobby" of engaging with and spreading it without substantiation vs reality doesn't make you "more aware", it just makes you part of the problem.

[-] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago

Okay then don't downplay existing racism because you successfully avoid it. That's helping no one end racism.

[-] MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 16 hours ago

You're literally promoting specific fan-art, spreading it far beyond what it ever would have reached otherwise, in your efforts to "end" racism. If anyone's watering down existing racism, its you and people who act as you do.

[-] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 8 hours ago

How am promoting and spreading it?

Oh, I follow now. The way I read it initially it was that fans were mad about it and they got it changed, not that they made it themselves. Thanks for the clarification!

[-] lemmysmash@piefed.social 7 points 1 day ago

Fuck racism. But why the fuck are you posting a piece of shit produced by some scum denying the right to live to a group of people based on their hobby?

[-] RmDebArc_5@piefed.zip 2 points 1 day ago
  1. This is humorous post. This is not to be taken seriously

  2. Gamers usually doesn't just mean someone that likes to play video games, but the specific toxic subset. At least that how most people use in my experience

[-] fizzle@quokk.au 6 points 1 day ago

The "discovery of the number 0" thing always bugs me because obviously no one needed to discover the number zero as it's used to express "I own zero goats".

The important discovery was the use of 0 as a placeholder in a column indicating no value, when writing the number 10 for example. Basically it's the discovery of a positional numeric system where the position / column of the digits means something.

[-] megopie@beehaw.org 8 points 1 day ago

The distinction between the concept of “nothing” as general concept, and “nothing” as a numerical value is non-trivial. And like, a mathematical proof that outlines that numerical concept of “nothing” is important.

[-] TommySoda@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

So a white person with Mar-a-Lago face? Kinda proves the point that a lot of casual racism just boils down to jealousy. They'll spend thousands of dollars on cosmetic surgery, lip filler, and spend hours a day tanning but god forbid you have those features naturally.

It's the same vibe as talking shit on Latino immigrants but than taking your family to a Mexican restaurant for dinner. Or how they talk shit about pride month and LGBTQ+ and say they deserve a parade for being straight all the while LGBTQ+ porn is extremely popular in conservative areas. They want all the benefits of other races, cultures, and sexualities without any of the prejudice that they themselves are creating.

You Don’t Have to Apologize for Being White Anymore!

Direct quote by US Vice President JD Vance, 2025.

Racists feel like it's OK to be openly racist again. They see people angry at their racism as oppressors.

Not surprised at all about this cover, though I am surprised Rockstar apparently went so far as to change it.

The tattoo on the one on the left really looks like a tattoo of her own face. I'm not big on tattoos of faces in general, so that's a little strange for me. It could be her mom or sister or something, I guess.

The one on the right has the same tattoo. I certainly wouldn't get a tattoo of someone whose job I took, whether they were fired because of racist fans, or they had poor job performance, or... Anything, really.

I've seen so many different versions of this in the last week. Blonde chick was the only one I've seen next to the original, like at least this one almost got the "credit where it's due" part right, but generally, I prefer the thicker, older-looking versions I've seen, even though the whole premise just makes me think "yep, it's hard to go wrong with skin and ink".

Gamers? I didn't even play this one. I never would have made the connection with the orignial without the side-by-side version, but I'm glad to get to see it again.

[-] Binturong@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 days ago

Both are nice, and also there was no need to consider the feelings of incel gamers and more than other groups in the first place, so the second wasn't needed. If white (skin) boys wanna have a fit over feeling left behind they should talk to white (class) billionaires who steal everyone's money about it. All this other shit, the performative racism, misogyny and masculinity, is just telling on themselves for having small dicks and being unlikeable becasue they can't accept reality. Instead, be based: Plenty of people enjoy small dicks, you deserve love and to love yourself primarily, and also eviscerate the oligarchy. All that said, gamers aren't a monolith of incels and wierdos so this meme fails, because judgemental generalizing is seldom useful in any context.
