MAGA has never been conservative, the fact that folks are asking this now says much about the electorate
MAGA was, and is, socially conservative to the point that they are willing to back a fascist to get their pet issues pushed through.
MAGA voted a notorious alduterer in office how is that socially conservative?
The only thing conservative I've seen out of this administration is lack of abortion, and removing LGBT rights, everything else is authoritarian which is not conservative.
As a side note conservatives tend to make room for the libertarian right, that room is now gone.
There never was and never will be a "libertarian right". Conservatism is for conserving a strict top-down hierarchy and always has been.
Sure there is. Libertarian-Right = Extreme Selfishness.
That's why their top issues are shit like "you can't make me..."
Libertarianism has a left to right bent. I know the popular meme is libertarians are just conservatives that want to smoke weed but there really is a libertarian right.
I've been told I'm a secret Republican double agent for decades.
Still independent, still vote for Ds more often than not in national elections. UNFATHOMABLE
My gun rights opinions tend to turn off the progressives in my circle, yet I tend to be more left than most of them.
The right has always preferred the rule of the few over the many, ever since the days of colonial America and the Loyalists. First, the rule of the King of England. Then, opposing slaves' rights. Then, opposing women's suffrage. It has pretty much always been their opinion that the powerless are powerless because they deserve it.
Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.
That's MAGA.
I've really been meaning to stop referring to them as conservatives. It's harder than you'd think after all this time.
Traitors seems like an appropriate fit.
They're traitors and authoritarians who belong in prison.
Wow, that’s the sub icon?
They're stupid and it's frustrating that we have to deal with them or suffer global consequences.
Only in America is it considered “conservative” to overturn years of laws and policies and to strive to return to the 1800 “gilded age” or whatever.
Anywhere else in the world, this is correctly described as regressive.
Conservatism is remarkably good at destroying things. Ironic.
Only in America
Sadly this part isn't true. If you want to find a hateful regressive, you only need to look to the right-wing parties in many countries. Sure, there are a few regressives in the fringe left-wing parties too, but the political right has a far more mainstream problem, worldwide.
And it seems like a handful of the party faithful might be waking up to that fact.
[…] right-wing parties in many countries.
These are generally not considered to be conservative.
They generally share quite a bit of policy with the conservative party though. And where there are politicians changing parties in order to follow the gravy train (rather than the party itself moving right), it's often from a conservative party to an up-and-coming even-further-right party.
Basically, love of money and sticking the boot in to those who don't have it.
Rats instinctually know to hop off a sinking ship.
I'd let my kids play with a wild rat before I let them anywhere near a conservative.
It's beginning to dawn on people, that when Trump during the campaign said one thing one day, and another the next, and they only heard what they like, that's not the one he ever planned to go with.
As a rule of thumb to people who know little about politics, done EVER vote for the flaming malignant narcissist. Chances are extremely slim it will end in anything good. And Trump was a very obvious flaming malignant narcissist way before the election in 2016.
Same thing they did with Bush Jr, although this is obviously much worse.
And America will let them get away with it. Just like we did with the Confederates. And the cancer will fester and become terminal again in the future. Assuming we have one.
It has been extremely entertaining to watch that sub recently.
There are signs of intelligent life in the comments, almost always followed up by some variant of "what's up, fellow conservative" where other users doubt the first's ~~conservativeness~~ conservativity because of too much critical thinking.
Many posts bemoan censorship by the "Democrat" party while their comment threads sit mostly empty, save for the few MAGA-friendly word vomits that the mods have allowed.
Someone should run an analysis looking at how many posts critical of Der Trumper have been allowed since the Iran war started. There used to be significant numbers of posts about Epstein supported by comments from folks who said they had pitchforks in their hands. It seemed like it might be the issue that broke MAGA. Once there was a military operation, it now appears they're all too transfixed to care about those ever-important principles anymore.
But who could have seen it coming? Well, anyone who has watched right-wing reactions at any point in the last 50 years. Nuclear levels of energy, followed by goldfish levels of memory, all further limited by ~~pet rock~~ Kid Rock levels of thought.
That sub has tipped the scale from "controversial but entertaining discussion" to "boring affirmations with simmering suspicion".
The very predictable results of heavy moderation
Hey is this that bot site i’ve heard so much about?
Obi-Wan said it best.
"You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy."
